About the Artist

Sophie is a metalworker and furniture maker currently based in Reading, PA. In creating the Facture/Fracture series, Mimlitsch-Gray poured plaster slabs and
attempted to form them, knowing that the material would break; uncertainty guided
her design methods. She made moulds and pewter casts of the plaster exploration, capturing qualities of the sketch and action in metal.
