Rachel Mulcahy is a clay-based artist from Dennis, Massachusetts, with a BFA in Art Education from Syracuse University and Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Ceramics from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, where she developed her craft as an artist and teacher. Rachel's teaching experience spans across diverse demographics, from youth workshops to community classes and university-level ceramic courses. Through her guidance, students of all ages have discovered the joys of working with clay. Rachel utilizes the art form of tiles to create sensitive and complex homages to nature. An emerging talent in the region, Mulcahy is bringing her unique voice and laudable talents to the field of ceramics.

ROSALIE NADEU

STRIPPED BASS PLAQUE, 1980

Hand sculpted, not cast, each piece is individually crafted from porcelain and carefully shaped over custom pillows to create its lifelike, dimensional form. Rosalie hand paints the eye and distinctive stripes before feathering her own custom-mixed black, blue and white glazes, resulting in extraordinary depth, movement and realism.

Nadeau's exceptional craftsmanship brings this legendary fish to life, making it a striking tribute to the region's maritime heritage. Whether displayed in a seaside cottage, waterfront retreat or contemporary home, this original sculpture is sure to become a treasured conversation piece.

This piece is especially significant as Nadeau has retired her flounder and bass series and does not anticipate making another. As this example dates to the 1980s, it represents an early work by the artist and a highly collectible example of her ceramic mastery.

Neil returned to Cape Cod from Sedona, AZ where he was a successful ceramicist and taught ceramics at the Sedona Art Center. He helped develop the program at the Art Center into being one of the most successful ceramics programs in Northern Arizona. Neil now teaches at the Cape Cod Museum of Art in Dennis, MA.

Neil lived the majority of his early life in Dennis. During his school years his mother would take him to many of the ceramicists on Cape Cod. She would frequently take him down to Scargo Pottery to watch Harry Holl work.

It wasn't until college that Neil's dialogue with clay started when he studied figurative and Renaissance art in Rome, Italy. After getting out of college and working in the sports marketing world, Neil took ceramics classes at multiple institutions studying with some of our nation's leading ceramicists.

Neil started working in ceramics in Santa Barbara, CA, where he deepened his artistic commitment, began working in clay full time and started the search for his artistic voice. Neil then moved his home and studio to Lake Arrowhead, CA and then Sedona, AZ.

Neil's pieces are represented in many collections in the South West, Southern California and New England. His ceramic pieces range from functional thrown forms to coil and slab-built figurative sculptures. His current clay pieces meld thrown forms, slabs, altering, incising and sculpting. The glazes on the functional pieces, fired in an electric kiln, have been developed to give the surface the depth and beauty traditionally associated with reduction firing. Neil's pieces meld a spiritual simplicity with a figurative rhythm and physical energy. This comes from being a kinetic individual, from a lifetime of playing sports, and his appreciation of Japanese ceramics and classical sculpture.
