Deborah Fowler Greenwood received her Master's in Art Education at Temple University's Tyler School as well as graduate study at RISD, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and the Maryland Institute of Art. She teaches art at Cape Cod Lighthouse Charter School. Recognized as the Arts Educator of the Year in 2011 by the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, Greenwood has shown her work in both solo and juried group exhibitions on and off Cape. She has received numerous exhibition awards and her work can be found in both private and corporate collections. Greenwood maintains a studio at "The 204" Harwich Cultural Center.

"While always an artist within, I had a life as a teacher for 35 years, retiring in 2009 the year I began being an artist full time. I was a Special Education teacher for 25 years with the Dennis-Yarmouth Public Schools in South Yarmouth, Massachusetts. In addition to my commitment as an educator, I served the local community on the Board of Directors of The Cape Cod ARC for 6 years and on the Board of the Cape Cod Therapeutic Riding Clinic for 2.

We all gather visual images about places we are going, people we will meet, and stories that we read or hear. With my art I hope to present the viewer with the opportunity to make some of their own personal connections. I believe that imagery is within me all the time. Without effort it just happens and the alignment of those subconscious images turn into a vision. Triggers can be as simple as the way I look at something, a passage I read or a physical experience. I would say most of my tyvek /paper cuttings and print work is a direct result of this." - Peter M. Martin

"Since graduating from college with a degree in fine arts nearly fifty years ago, my artistic expression has been mainly through sculpture in the form of abstract constructions. The primary focus of that work has been the process involved in its creation. In a sense the pieces have been performance based, where the goal is not the finished piece, but rather the experience of moving through the creative process. As with my sculpture, my paintings are abstract, and as with my sculpture, the main focus of the paintings is the process of creating them. These paintings have also been a unifying element in my life. In the half century since I last painted creatively, I have been deeply involved in the building industry, both as a contractor, and later as a writer and photographer of construction practices. During that time I was always intrigued by the style and sophistication of joinery, from rudimentary framing to complex finish work. As I searched for a subject matter to use for my paintings, the shapes and interaction of materials from my building experience seemed to be a natural choice.For each painting, I start with the concept of an 'architectural vignette', which could be an actual object in a building structure taken from my experience, or it could be a macro-view of a particular structural element"

LAURENCE YOUNG PROVINCETOWN, MA

Laurence Young grew up in Newton, Massachusetts, then like a rural haven. It was in those early days of childhood exploration among the woods and waterways that he would sit for hours observing and drawing, hidden from view on the embankment of the Charles River. One could say that this was a foreshadowing of what would become a lifelong career as an artist. Young graduated with honors from the University of Hartford in 1974 with a bachelor's degree in art education. In 1979 he went on to earn his master's degree in Printmaking from Rhode Island School of Design. Initially a plein-air painter is now a full-time studio artist living in Provincetown, MA. Working outdoors from life has served him well in his studio. His innate color sense sets him apart while integrating his line work which comes and goes within the work. Sometimes the drawing articulates the image while other times it adds another whole dimension. There is a quiet and volatile quality to Laurence's work that draws the viewer in. His love for nature is visceral, while his seascapes rock gently with the sense of water ripple as it ebbs and tides. His figurative work skillfully represents the figure then abstracted with color and shape. Laurence has had a successful career of over 30 years as a working artist. His paintings are represented all over the country through various galleries. Young is also part of public and private collections.

SUSAN BEARDSLEY DENNIS, MA

Sue Beardsley began her art career after taking an early retirement at age 51. She specializes in Found Art, making things from material that is no longer suitable for its initial purpose. Starting her art life as a stained glass artist, she soon became consumed with intriguing metal shapes that were being thrown out, and realized she needed to learn to weld in order to fashion these pieces into sculpture. Sue has since expanded her media into fiber, paper, and wood. She has been in many group and solo shows over the years, and continues to teach individuals in her studios.

Aboard F/v Saga one summer morning steaming to her lobster gear east of Monomoy, we passed tide rips at Bearse's Shoal as the dawn mingled with the fog.

Since his first foray to the sockeye salmon grounds of Alaska's Cook Inlet 20 years ago, he's made his artistic home wherever the marine environment intersects with the people who make their living on it. With a special focus on the waters worked by Cape Cod fishermen, David harvests a different catch, bringing viewers a perspective they rarely see.

David's process of documenting commercial fishing involves joining crews aboard vessels as small as 12 feet, (a crab fisherman in La Paz, MX) to 90 feet. A trip might be hours long on small inshore boats to 2 weeks on longliners. Much of the work done aboard is repetitive, allowing him the opportunity to study his subject, plan compositions and anticipate decisive moments.

David is captivated by the scenes in between; massive wavescapes sculpted by gale force winds, geometric studies of form and light, ethereal colors and mystifying fogs. It is primarily these images that you see here in the gallery. Welcome aboard, we hope you enjoy them.
