The Mountain Lodge at the End of the Road

Brasstown Valley Resort & Spa

Young Harris, Georgia

The horseman paused at the ridge line.

Below him, morning mist drifted through the valleys. Mountain peaks rolled into the distance like waves frozen in time. Somewhere far below, a hawk traced lazy circles on an invisible current of air.

He could have continued on.

Instead, he stayed awhile.

Some views have a way of changing your plans.

Nestled among the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Georgia, Brasstown Valley Resort feels wonderfully removed from the pace of modern life. The roads become quieter. The air becomes cooler. And the mountains seem determined to remind you that not everything worth experiencing can be rushed.

This is a place where rocking chairs overlook endless ridgelines, where morning coffee tastes better simply because of where you're drinking it, and where the day's greatest challenge may be deciding whether to explore the mountains or simply admire them.

A single night here often feels much longer.

In the best possible way.

Spend the day discovering scenic mountain roads, charming small towns, local wineries, and nearby Lake Chatuge. Then return to the warmth and comfort of a renowned mountain lodge where Southern hospitality and rustic elegance share the same address.

As evening settles across the valley, the sun slips behind the mountains and the sky transforms into shades of gold, crimson, and violet. The world's distractions fade into the distance.

The mountains remain.

They've been patiently waiting for your arrival.

The Lake, the Mountains, and the Long Evening Light

Lake Chatuge - Hiawassee, Georgia

The old fisherman never rushed back to shore.

Not because the fish were biting.

Because the sunset was.

Each evening, the mountains gathered around Lake Chatuge like silent spectators, watching the sky turn from gold to amber to shades no paint manufacturer has ever successfully captured.

Some places insist you slow down.

Lake Chatuge is one of them.

Nestled in the North Georgia mountains, this tranquil corner of the world feels pleasantly removed from schedules, deadlines, and notifications. Mornings arrive quietly across glass-like water. Evenings settle in beside a crackling stone fireplace. Between them lies the simple luxury of doing exactly as much, or as little, as you please.

Your home for the weekend is a beautifully appointed lakeside condominium where comfort meets mountain charm. No stairs. No complicated logistics. Just easy access, thoughtful accommodations, and all the conveniences needed for a thoroughly relaxing retreat.

The kitchen is fully equipped with stainless steel appliances and granite countertops, ready for everything from a leisurely breakfast to a family feast. Outside, a charming shoreline invites long conversations, peaceful reflection, and perhaps the finest seat in Georgia for watching the sun disappear behind the Blue Ridge Mountains.

A lighted lakeside pavilion offers ceiling fans, picnic tables, charcoal grills, and a magnificent stone fireplace for gatherings that can stretch comfortably into the evening.

And should adventure call, you're only minutes from the shops and restaurants of Hiawassee, the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds, and the many recreational opportunities of Lake Chatuge itself.

Some vacations are filled with activity.

Others are filled with exhaling.

This one specializes in the latter.

The Keeper of Ancient Stories

Private Ocmulgee Experience with Dr. Matt Jennings

The historian stopped beside an earthen mound.

No microphones.

No velvet ropes.

No crowds.

Just a quiet stretch of Georgia landscape and a story waiting to be told.

Most visitors see ancient earthworks.

Dr. Matt Jennings sees a civilization.

A village bustling with life. Ceremonies beneath the stars. Generations of people who called this land home centuries before most maps ever recorded its existence.

And somehow, during a walk through Ocmulgee, he makes you see it too.

This is no ordinary tour.

It's an invitation behind the curtain of history, led by one of the region's foremost scholars and storytellers. As you explore the remarkable grounds of Ocmulgee, centuries unfold beneath your feet. What once appeared to be mounds of earth becomes a living narrative of innovation, culture, community, and resilience.

But the experience doesn't end when the tour concludes.

Take home a signed copy of Dr. Jennings' book and continue the journey long after you've left the site. Enjoy a family membership to the Ocmulgee Mounds Association, helping preserve and promote one of Georgia's most significant historical treasures for generations to come.

Lanterns flicker.

Shadows lengthen.

Stories emerge from the darkness during the acclaimed Lantern Light Tours, where history feels less like a subject and more like a living companion.
