The state tree of Kentucky, the tulip poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera) in one of the largest trees in the eastern United States. Mature trunks can reach 4'-6' in diameter. Named for its tulip-like flowers, it attracts migrating birds and hummingbirds, and hosts dozens of butterflies and moths.
