Opening Night at Heinz Hall celebrates one of Pittsburgh's most beloved cultural landmarks through an original photograph transformed with encaustic wax, crystalline elements, and luminous pigments.
The historic facade emerges through translucent layers of wax, a fine-art technique with roots extending back more than 2,000 years. As light moves across the surface, subtle textures and embedded elements reveal themselves, evoking the anticipation, wonder, and shared experience of an opening night.
More than a portrait of a building, this work honors Heinz Hall as a gathering place where generations of artists, musicians, and audiences have shared extraordinary musical experiences.
