Los Ninos Primero Board Member, Marietta D. Murton, is the founder of The Inner Bean Project, a movement weaving together Peruvian ancestral knowledge, modern neuroscience, and contemporary art. At its heart is a small but powerful symbol: the lima bean, traditionally significant in Andean culture and reimagined to represent the emotional center of the brain. Each Inner Bean is handcrafted with natural beans, resin, acrylic paint, and gold leaf - a sacred object of remembrance, reflection, and resilience - inviting people to reconnect with their inner voice through the affirmation: "I am well. I am safe. I am loved."

The Inner Bean Project is a movement that brings together art, neuroscience, and cultural heritage to nurture emotional well-being.

At the heart of our project is a humble yet powerful symbol: the Peruvian pallar (lima bean), soft and curved, shaped like the brain's emotional center. This bean is much more than a dietary staple-its design embodies layers of profound meaning inspired by ancient Moche culture. For the Moche, the bean transcended nourishment to represent the cyclical dance of life and death as well as transformation.

To protect the plating, these jewelry pieces should not be worn in the shower, while swimming, or during exercise. Perfume, hairspray, lotion, and hand soap may damage the plating and polished finish; remove jewelry when applying personal care products. Avoid using harsh chemicals or cleaners. Rinse only using warm water and polish with a soft, light-colored cloth.

ANTHONY (NINO) SARTI

Anthony Sarti (known as Nino) began painting seriously later in life, teaching himself by doing. He works with acrylic paste and paint, building up the surface, scraping it back and starting again until the image feels right. The layers remain visible, recording the decisions that shaped the painting rather than smoothing them away.

Trusting his own judgement from the outset, Sarti developed his practice independently, stretching his own canvases, building his own frames and signing his paintings 'Nino', a personal nod to his father. He sought out opportunities to show his work, but when progress through established channels proved slow, he opened his own gallery space, exhibiting his paintings alongside those of other artists and building a community where work could be made, shown and discussed.

That persistence has been rewarded. Twenty-four of Sarti's paintings are now owned by a Hollywood actor, with his work also appearing in film.

Bold in scale and colour, Sarti's paintings bring a strong visual presence to contemporary interiors. They are the product of persistence, self-reliance and time spent learning what works - and trusting it.
