Inside these walls, the events that created America were discussed over dinner: King George's affronts to the Colonies, the prospect of declaring American independence, and the progress of the War. The food and the Madeira wine were excellent. The quality of the conversations was the finest in the world. Built in 1773, it was frequented by George Washington, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson. The first Continental Congress members dined there, and it was known as a "meeting place during the Revolutionary War".
