About the artist

Lee Lippman (1927 - 2020) was a versatile painter celebrated for cultural fusion in artworks, murals, and exhibitions across prestigious galleries, prominently featured in esteemed collections.

Lee Lippman is a renowned Philadelphia artist with a rich artistic legacy. Lippman, whose career spanned several decades, was deeply rooted in the Philadelphia art scene. Lippman's work reflects his experiences in Mexico, the Mountain West, Philadelphia, New York City, and its environs.

Lippman's early works exhibit a distinctive style characterized by somber brushstrokes, demonstrating his foray into art brut-style abstraction. During his formative years, he studied under the tutelage of renowned muralists Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco, and David Alfaro Siqueiros in Mexico. Additionally, he explored new artistic horizons at the Instituto Polytecnico Nacional. Following his time in Mexico, Lippman further honed his craft at the Philadelphia College of Art (now University of the Arts), where he earned recognition with the senior prize for painting.

Subsequently, Lippman embarked on a twelve-year sojourn in Mexico alongside his wife, Arlene Love, herself an accomplished artist. It was during this period that his artistic expression blossomed, infusing his work with vibrant hues and a newfound vitality. Lippman's paintings from this era vividly capture the essence of rural landscapes, employing bold color palettes to convey the luminosity and dynamism of his surroundings.

Throughout his career, which spanned from 1975 until his passing, Lippman remained dedicated to his craft, transitioning from canvas to paper mediums. His later works bear a modernist aesthetic with hints of abstraction, portraying ordinary moments in urban and rural settings. Characterized by swirling brushstrokes that evoke movement and texture, Lippman's signature landscapes exhibit elements of impressionism tinged with surrealism, featuring expansive skies and distinctive horizon lines.

Lippman's artistic legacy endures through the inclusion of his works in numerous private collections and esteemed institutions, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Woodmere Art Museum, James A. Michener Art Museum, Phillip Morris International, MAS Corporation, various universities and colleges, such as the Philip and Muriel Berman Museum at Ursinus College, among others.

Can be used for display or ritual.

Sentinels served various purposes, often equally invested in moving a team closer to championships as in helping athletes and fans deal with losses, psychological pain, and grief. These idols were created to represent supernatural beings and harness their uncanny powers. They were strategically placed in lockers, homes, sports bars, training facilities, or around the stadium, field, or court. Some guarded athletes and, in turn, teams and entire cities, from injuries and psychological trappings such as slumps, the yips, performance anxiety, or Steve Sax Syndrome. Others were designed to invite in flow-state, irrational confidence, unified swagger, or communal support.

This particular sentinel, as its name suggests, was/is/can be used to invite offensive fire power into ones life through confidence and mantras like "just let it go".

Artist Bio
Clarence Philbrick is a multidisciplinary artist whose work bridges visual arts, social practice, and relational research. His work investigates the transformative power of community, cultural dimensions of sports and play, and disassembling harmful patriarchal norms. Through ritual objects and social projects, Philbrick explores the violence and humor intertwined in dominant versions of masculinity.

Since graduating from Vassar College (BA) and The University of New Mexico (MFA), Philbrick has engaged with object making and a series of performance-based works, embodying themes of myth making, ritual, collective effort, play, and healing. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and his participatory projects have been featured by BBC, New Yorker Magazine, WHYY/NPR, Playboy, HuffPost, and Ethiopian TV.

Artist Statement
Lago represents an investigation of the movement and flow of water that remains prevalent in my work.

The images visually describe the various views of a mountain top lake from a distance.
Through repetition, each individual vignette conveys the course of water through eddies and streams, with attention drawn to the changing light, reflection, and a blurred focus of the landscape.

Artist Bio

Nancy Agati is a Philadelphia based multidisciplinary artist. Her work includes works on paper, sculpture, site-specific installation, and public art. Agati holds a BFA from Alfred University School of Art & Design, NY, and an MFA from The University of the Arts, Philadelphia. She has exhibited her work throughout Philadelphia and nationally, with select exhibitions at the Philadelphia Art Alliance, Fairmount Water Works, Philadelphia, PA; Stockton University Gallery, Galloway, NJ; Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art, NY; Hillyer Art Space, Washington, DC; and The Calandra Italian American Institute, NY.

Agati's work is featured in several collections, including The Pennsylvania Convention Center and Temple University. Her public projects about water and the environment include Aqua Terrace at the DaVinci Art Alliance, Basins and Borders for the Penn Program in Environmental Humanities, Water Table for the New Jersey Coastal Climate Resilience Project, and FLOW at The Independence Seaport Museum. Agati has received two Leeway Foundation awards, along with project grants from the Hemera Foundation, the Puffin Foundation, the Atlantic City Arts Foundation, NOAA, NJDEP, and the City of Philadelphia. She has been an artist in residence at the Santa Fe Art Institute, NM; Lo Studio dei Nipoti, Italy; Main & Station, Nova Scotia; InLiquid/PHS/Meadowbrook Farm, PA; and Officina Stamperia Del Notaio, Tusa, Sicily.

Artist Statement
"Canopy" represents a recent departure from my 3-D wall-mounted sculptures of the last few years. However, my creative process is somewhat similar in that I still trust a combination of randomization strategies and intentionality, along with experimentation and iteration. The psychedelic paper gingko leaves in "Canopy" were cut out from papers pressed pressed together with paint blobs and drops between them, yielding unexpected and often thrilling results. The overall gradient effect of the piece is intentional, but there was no way to plan out the thousands of interactions between the leaves, also unexpected and thrilling.

Andrew Chalfen is a visual artist and musician living and working in Philadelphia. His work has appeared at many shows nationally and in and around Pennsylvania, such as the Abington Art Center, The Hoyt Center, and the Delaware Contemporary. His work has appeared on book jackets and album covers. He is the recipient of several awards, including winner of the Bombay Sapphire Artisan Series Mid-Atlantic Regional for 2018 and his piece "Vibration Lands" was displayed at SCOPE Miami during the Art Basel/Art Miami fair.

Artist Statement
My work overall reflects on current American culture, my own mediated perception of reality, and humankind's fraught relationship with the natural world. Often appearing like collages, my oil paintings combine imagery from different American regions with invention and abstraction, envisioning new worlds and offering a sense of possibility. My smaller works on paper, like Connected, incorporate natural inks that I make from foraged plants. These pieces meditate particularly on ephemerality, on tensions between ecology and the built environment, and on the potential of hybrid, natural/human-made systems.

Julia Clift is a Philadelphia-based artist using painting, drawing, and collage to grapple with current American culture, her own mediated perception of reality, and humankind's fraught relationship with the natural world. Her work has been widely exhibited throughout the United States, at locations including Massey Klein Gallery, Pentimenti Gallery, Fleisher Art Memorial, MassoniArt, Bloomfield Richwood Gallery, GreenHill Center for NC Art, Philip Slein Gallery, and Arnot Art Museum. Her pieces are held in permanent collections at Wythe Hotel in Brooklyn, NY, and Penn Medicine's Clifton Center for Medical Breakthroughs in Philadelphia. Recently, she was named a 2026 CFEVA Fellowship Finalist. A passionate educator, Julia has taught painting and drawing at The Pennsylvania State University, Tyler School of Art and Architecture, Maryland Institute College of Art, and West Chester University. At Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University, Julia co-created and continues to teach Visualizing Anatomy, a course that deepens medical students' understanding of anatomy through visual arts curriculum. In 2023, she conceived and curated Seeing the Anthropocene, a multi-venue exhibition in Philadelphia featuring works by over a dozen international artists, scientists, and musicians all grappling with urgent environmental issues. Julia received her BFA from Washington University in St. Louis and her MFA from Tyler School of Art and Architecture, Temple University. She additionally studied under the painter Odd Nerdrum from 2009-2010. Her writing has been featured in BOMB, Hyperallergic, and Title Magazine.

Artist Statement
The work is quiet and constructed from washi papers purchased in Japan. The elements have been added one by one until the work and its story is complete. The final composition emphasizes form but the white spaces play an important role.

My work is quiet. I take a meditative approach. My desk is cluttered with fractured pieces, but then I'll take a piece and put it next to another and it begins to tell me something... to tell a story. When I add the next element the story may change. Sometimes, as I add to the story, finding the next element becomes more and more difficult. I'll put the work aside for days, weeks or months. Then, suddenly, the solution will appear, like an insight that solves a mathematical puzzle. The work contains color and form, but also white space, which plays an equally powerful and important role. I recently started to add thread to collages as a connective tool; a way to help the eye move around the work in a balanced way.

Artist Bio
My background is graphic design. While living in NYC I took evening classes at The School of Visual Arts and free-lanced at prominent graphic design companies before founding my own studio. After New York my family moved to the South, Midwest and then Philadelphia. In 2014 we moved overseas, spending 2 years in Shanghai, then 2 years in Tokyo and returned to Shanghai for 2 years. While in Japan I fell in love with handmade washi paper and began to make small abstract collages incorporating found paper, thread, cloth and other everyday materials such as confectionary wrappers. My work on these collages continues to this day. I hope my work conveys the quiet, thoughtful, beauty of those source materials.

Artist Statement
Recently, I've been spending more time looking at the windows between artworks at museums. The windows become almost counter-programming to what's displayed in the galleries. This pallet cleanser now becomes the subject matter, and I'll be curious what the view from the window will be for this exhibit.

Abel Dolby is a Philadelphia-based artist born and raised primarily in Indiana. He received his BFA in Studio Art from Indiana University and his MFA in Studio Art from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Since 2008, he has exhibited his work nationally in galleries and juried exhibitions.

Recent exhibitions include The Juried Show at Prince Street Gallery in New York (2025); A-Sides at Atelier Gallery(2024); and No Synthetic Colors at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (2023). In 2022, he presented the solo exhibition Travelogue at Gamut Gallery.

Artist Statement
My work on acid-etched tin grows out of years working with my mother, who crafted colonial lighting fixtures from tin and copper. Using acid washes and layered oil glazes, I create surfaces that suggest water, weather, and shifting landscapes.

The process allows the material itself to guide the image, producing atmospheric forms that move between abstraction and landscape. The work reflects both the craft traditions I grew up with and the river valley where I live and work.

Artist Bio
Kirby Fredendall (b. 1966) is an artist based in New Hope, Pennsylvania, along the Delaware River in Bucks County, a region historically associated with Pennsylvania Impressionism. Raised in a household of artisans and surrounded by the area's long artistic tradition, she developed an early interest in landscape and material process.

She earned a BA in Art History from Duke University and later completed an M.Ed. in Art Education with painting coursework at Arcadia University. Fredendall lives and works in New Hope, where her studio occupies a restored building that once served as a general store.

Worm Food is a meditation on mortality, and the "way of all things", including humans. It's rooted in my love of gardening and ecological processes but also brings it a little closer to home while maintaining a sense of playfulness and wryness.

Timothy Gierschick II (b. 1976, Reading, PA) is an artist living and working in Philadelphia, PA. His paintings and works on paper have been exhibited and collected both nationally and internationally, including by Duane Morris LLP offices worldwide, and Capital One Bank NA. Timothy earned his Bachelor of Arts, concentrating in Printmaking, from Messiah College in 2000. He has also been employed since 2004 by the Barnes Foundation, Philadelphia, as preparator.

Artist Statement
This image is part of a series I've been working on that relates to prescience, to premonition. It is about the quiet of snow, the sweetness of a moment, a fated encounter. That encounter is suggested in an out-of-the-ordinary, unexpected character waiting outside, just about to be seen by a child coming to look out at the snow. There are shapes being formed by the snowflakes … circles and house shapes. And shadows on the roof …of two figures not there. Of course, like most ofmy work, it is a self-portrait of sorts, a page from a visual journal.

Artist Bio

Elissa Glassgold received her MFA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1980. She earned a BFA and BA in Art Education from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Prior to that, she spent four years studying at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, where she was awarded a Cresson European Travelling Scholarship. In 1987, Glassgold was awarded an IndividualArtist grant from the Pennsylvania State Council on the Arts. She was a founding member of Nexus Gallery in Philadelphia, and has participated in group and solo shows in Philadelphia, New York, New Jersey, Michigan, and North Carolina since 1984. In addition, Elissa has worked as a courtroom illustrator for CBS, and from 1990 until 2010 produced sculpted prototypes for the European and American toy industry. These works were widely acclaimed, and she received a number of international awards for her designs.

Since 2019, Ms. Glassgold has participated in residencies at The Vermont Studio Center and The Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. Elissa taught at Temple/Tyler University in Philadelphia for several years as a full-time adjunct instructor of Painting and Drawing, and from 1981 to 2010 taught Figure Painting at The Fleisher Art Memorial in Philadelphia. In addition, she wrote an undergraduate Liberal Arts course in Visual Language and Art History, which she taught at Rutgers University in Camden, New Jersey, and at the Hussian School of Art in Philadelphia. Concurrent with College Teaching, Elissa was involved in early elementary art education for several years, working primarily with underserved communities in thePhiladelphia/New Jersey areas. Elissa divides her time between her home in Ontario, Canada, and Philadelphia, PA.

About
I am a photographer and a papermaker. My work melds the spontaneous playfulness and fluidity of paper making with the discipline inherent in the darkroom. Making my own paper accentuates the organic nature of the work. The complex interaction of paper and process results in textural, sensual prints, each of which are unique. A fascination with natural cycles, patterns and textures runs through my work and seeks to capture the beauty of a still point in life's chaos.

There are subjects that are better suited to printing on other media and I have work that is printed on standard papers (silver or digital) and on non-traditional materials such as silk. The project and the imagery determine my choice and I always attempt to have my printing method and media enhance the final work.

My training as an artist has been self-directed rather than formal. Through workshops, exchanging ideas with fellow artists, and much experimentation, I have evolved as an artist and developed my unique working methods and voice.

Through my practice, I aim to capture that energy and remind viewers that life is fluid, layered, and ever-changing.

Artist Bio
Jeremy "Lupien" LaMountain is a self-taught artist based in Philadelphia, PA. Born in 1997 in New Haven, CT, he discovered his passion for art early in life, inspired by both of his grandmothers who pushed him to explore the arts through multiple mediums. His work primarily incorporates acrylic paint, collage, and mixed media, exploring themes of contrast and popular culture, particularly through the lens of cartoons, advertisements, and urban life.

Lupien's artistic development has been shaped by his experiences living in Baltimore, New York City, and Philadelphia-cities that have influenced the rhythm, energy, and intensity of his work. His time creating art alongside college students and graffiti artists in Baltimore encouraged him to embrace both traditional and nontraditional materials and techniques.

His work has been exhibited in four group shows and one duo show in Baltimore and New York, and he has completed large-scale public murals, including a commissioned original piece painted directly onto a living room wall in a New York City loft.

Artist Statement
In my artistic practice, I navigate the shifting terrain between order and chaos, welcoming missteps, accidents, and unexpected revelations as guides toward discovery. Each experiment becomes a dialogue with material and chance, where the physical world offers its own contradictions and possibilities. Through this unfolding process, I pursue inventive solutions to the questions I pose, allowing intuition and uncertainty to shape the work as much as intention.

Artist Bio
Stuart Lehrman began his career on the West Coast, showing his work at galleries in San Francisco, Portland, Los Angeles, and Dallas. His early work focused on richly colored ceramics and painted wooden and found object sculptures. He relocated to upstate New York in the 1990s and worked as art director for the New York State Health Department. Twelve years ago, he moved to Philadelphia to teach design courses at Jefferson University (now retired). He lives with his wife and works in his home/studio in Cherry Hill, NJ.

Lehrman's artwork is in numerous public collections.

Meditating on the perfection inherent in nature, this piece merges geometric precision reminiscent of the Fibonacci sequence in the head of a sunflower through careful draftsmanship with petal-like flourishes in dazzling colors, representing the artist's imagination.

About
Amanda Elle Lewis is an artist and textile designer whose work is deeply influenced by the history of craft and ornamentation. Her handwoven and printed textiles often begin with hand drawing and painting, exploring geometry in whimsical colors and reflecting the meditative and spiritual aspects of art-making.

The daughter of a fashion design professor, Lewis trained in classical art from a young age and pursued a Textiles degree at Rhode Island School of Design. She has since worked as a textile and fashion designer for independent, corporate, and high-fashion clients.

Artist Statement
The inspiration for this piece hangs in the Philadelphia Museum of Art, a piece by Marcel Duchamp titled Nude Descending A Staircase. His was a groundbreaking work of art in the Futurism movement. Today the likelihood of a SWAT Team descending one's staircase seems just as likely as a beautiful nude woman. The Dark figure depicted in my piece is reminiscent of Darth Vader, an ominous presence. The SWAT member's laser scope is analogous to Vader's lightsaber. We live in a time of overpricing and state control, which is the central theme of this piece.

Artist Statement
My work is constructed from hand-crocheted cotton thread, dredged in glues and foraged pigments, and fashioned into sculptural forms. Drawing from folkloric botanical motifs, institutional osteological displays, sci-fi and body-horror cinema, and extended periods spent alone with an overactive imagination, I consider society's reluctance to legitimize gendered craft and interpret crochet as a behavioral response to apocalyptic conditions. Repetitively generating, saturating, and stiffening each unit transforms soft material into static compositions, recontextualizing despair and rage as ornate, provocative, and occasionally comical specimens. With the addition of materials and objects obscured by overgrowths of fibrous vines and lace-like flowers, each object's integrity is reinforced by complex networks, just as we are strengthened by the calcified scars of lived experience.

Philadelphia-based fiber artist and educator Caitlin McCormack has contributed works to solo and group exhibitions at Elijah Wheat Showroom, Field Projects, Hashimoto Contemporary, The Mütter Museum, Museum Rijswijk, The Mesa Contemporary Art Museum, The Taubman Museum of Art, The Fort Wayne Museum of Art, Feinkünst Krüger, SPRING/BREAK Art Show, Future Fair, and with BravinLee Programs in NYC. Their sculptures have appeared in publications including The New York Times, Hyperallergic, BOMB, Juxtapoz, Whitehot Magazine, Smithsonian, and Bust Magazine. In addition to holding teaching positions at The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and Hussian College of Art and Design, McCormack has participated in artist residencies at The Vermont Studio Center, Monson Arts, The Peter Bullough Foundation, The Wassaic Project, Byrdcliffe Artist Colony, Kimmel Harding Nelson, and The C-Scape Dune Shack Artist Residency Program in Provincetown, MA. McCormack was the recipient of a Joseph Robert Foundation grant in 2021 and received the Woodmere Art Museum's Maurice Freed Memorial Prize in 2023.

Danny Simmons, Jr., is an American abstract painter from Queens, NY, who once coined his particular style of painting as "neo-African Abstract Expressionism." Simmons' visual artworks are held in public collections including The Smithsonian, the United Nations, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the Brooklyn Museum, Chase Manhattan Bank, Deutsche Bank, Schomburg Center for Black Culture, along with numerous private collections. Simmonsis co-founder along with his siblings, Russell and Joseph Simmons, and president of the Rush Arts Gallery. He is also founder and VP of the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation. Recently featured in Black Art in America, "Danny Simmons: A Critical Path" by Howard McCalebb.

Danny Simmons holds a Bachelor's degree in social work from New York University, a Masters in public finance from Long Island University, and is the recipient of an honorary Ph.D. from Long Island University. He continues to thrive at his 'home gallery' in Philadelphia, PA.

Artist Bio
Alex Spalding (b. 1985, Springfield, MO) is a self-taught figurative painter specializing in vibrant, stylized portraiture of women. Drawing from his love for commercial illustration and contemporary art, he merges those influences with expressive techniques and the innovative use of technology.

Before dedicating himself to the visual arts in 2023, Alex was immersed in a diverse range of creative pursuits, including dance music, managing indie record labels, and writing. This multidisciplinary background continues to inform the eclectic style of his work today. Alex lives and works in Philadelphia, PA.

Artist Statement
I grew up in an area of Pennsylvania dominated by the steel industry, and have long been interested in industrial architecture as an expression of cultural history. "In the Presence of Memory" explores the architectural vestiges of a far more ancient industry: agriculture. The disappearing vernacular architecture of barns in rural Pennsylvania reveals their varied European lineages: specific structural elements reflect the building traditions of the home countries of the immigrant families who built them. A typology of these barn structures bears witness to centuries of migration. But what once seemed a stable and permanent destination is now in flux, as the family farm gives way to industrial farming, and farmland is converted to residential or commercial developments. For the past year I have been traveling throughout my home state to document these agricultural structures: abandoned, re-purposed, or - occasionally - still in use. These photographic images have become the source material for this body of work. Using industrial felt (manufactured in Pennsylvania) as a substrate, I silk-screen images of architectural details of the barns using industrial pigments such as steel, iron and copper. I paint each piece individually using oil and cold wax, and cut into the felt, echoing the empty and thatched spaces of the often-dilapidated structures I have photographed. I "patch" these cut areas with colored sections of serigraph negatives, mimicking the splashes of incongruous color on the weathered surfaces that have been repaired again and again. The colors, forms and shapes of the felt panels all refer to the original structures; even in their abstraction, these paintings document the vanishing rural industrial landscape.

Artist Bio
Krista Svalbonas holds a BFA in Photography and an MFA in Interdisciplinary studies. Her work has been shown in a number of exhibitions including: the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art, Spartanburg Art Museum in South Carolina, Howard Yezerski Gallery in Boston, Marshall Gallery in Los Angeles, Klompching Gallery and ISE Cultural Foundation in New York. Her work is part of the permanent collections of the Cesis Art Museum in Latvia, the Gregg Museum of Art and Design in North Carolina, the Woodmere Art Museum and Temple University in Philadelphia. Recent awards include a Center for Photographic Art Artist Grant (2022), Baumanis Creative Projects Grant (2020), Rhonda Wilson Award (2017), Puffin Foundation Grant (2016) and a Bemis Fellowship (2015) among others. In 2022/23 Svalbonas had solo exhibitions of her series Displacement, at the Copenhagen Photography festival in Denmark, the Tallinn city museum in Tallinn, Estonia, Museum of Textile and Industry in Augsburg Germany and the National Museum in Vilnius Lithuania. She is an associate professor of photography at St. Joseph's University. She lives and works in Philadelphia.

Artist Statement

Part of the Kensington Sketchbook Series. For 4 years, Tomezsko has been an Artist in Residence with the Mural Arts' Color Me Back: Same Day Work and Pay Program, located at the intersection of Kensington and Allegheny. While engaged with making collaborative art within the community, Tomezsko also maintains an active painting practice, often drawing from observation and reflecting on the environment in which he works.

Artist Bio

Mat Tomezsko is an artist creating paintings, murals, and community art projects based around participation, collaboration, and empowerment. He does not center himself in his work, rather he creates a structure in which other people can genuinely contribute to something greater than the sum of its parts. His artwork is based on observation and his approach to composition is informed by formalism and conceptualism. His work was recognized by the Americans for the Arts Public Art Network for outstanding public art.

Tomezsko's artwork has been exhibited at numerous art spaces regionally and nationally, including the Thomas Hunter Projects in New York, NY; Lillstreet Art Center in Chicago, IL; and the Crane Arts, Woodmere Art Museum, and Wexler Gallery in Philadelphia.

His works are included in several public collections including The Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania, Fox School of Business at Temple University, and Purdue University as well as numerous private and corporate collections such as Capital One in Wilmington, DE; and Deloitte in Philadelphia, PA.

His murals are located in Kensington, Manayunk, Temple University Main Campus, Frankford, Tacony, and more.

Artist Statement

Andrea Bartine Caldarise is a contemporary landscape painter drawing inspiration from natural and built environments. Her studio practice investigates the psychological connection between landscape and people through visual storytelling. Caldarise uncovers the extraordinary hidden in plain sight through the exploration of landscapes, conversations, and research. Using the language of landscape, her art explores the tension between real and surreal encouraging viewers to question their surroundings.

There's a moment when you blink and your perspective shifts, the artwork is situated in that transitional moment. Encapsulated therein is an examination of movement, creating an experience for the viewer to feel that "each space seems like we've just arrived at the scene of...". Caldarise's paintings evolve over time, possessing a mutable yet distinct character - akin to the changing impressions one gets when revisiting a favorite book. The experience alters with each encounter, enriched by previous engagements. The paintings perform as an oculus, to utilize environments as entry points for open-ended narratives drawing on the collective consciousness. Layered with happiness, trauma, and inequity, landscapes function as mirrors of our present. By investigating various viewpoints--historical, personal, and imagined--we create empathy within our ever-changing world. These paintings are derived from experiences within the social and physical environments around us.

Caldarise's paintings are inspired by research trips to national parks, including Olympic, Death Valley, Joshua Tree, Big Sur, Petrified Forest, and Yosemite. Many of these works emerged from the artist's experiences, informed by research into geological history, ecological studies, and folklore among other research tangents. These artworks look closely at iconic vistas to delve into the emotions and histories of these distinctive environments.

Artist Statement
When I was a child, I thought an artist was someone who could draw representationally. Whereas I myself, could not. I did however, have an artist studio - my childhood closet. Drawing on memory and relevant happenings, I would paste items I collected into old books, to create a newer version of an older story. They pieced together narratives that address aspects of disorder, time and their inseparability. They honored my many irrational superstitions, weaving past with present to construct an imagined world inside of a perceived reality. I still paste things together. The act of doing so helps me to see and create an illusory order. Through layers of acrylic, graphite, ink, pigment and wax, I strive to convert a familiar chaos into something relatively tidy. The elements are fused together in a nonlinear progression, until the process takes on a life of its own, often divergent from my original plan.

This work is about the inner conflict that comes with embracing imperfection, while simultaneously resisting what I cannot accept. It's a means of navigating a relevant and seemingly shared uncertainty, while separating my own perceptions from a collective disquiet. It allows me to rewrite the language of time, replacing disorder with snippets of thought, memory and intentional ambiguity. Through it, I'm able to reach into a blurry yet calculated void, and make tangible what I'm otherwise unable to control.

Peggy Washburn is an interdisciplinary artist, photographer and educator whose work has been acquired by permanent collections, including the Bibliothéque Nationale de France, The Harry Ransom Center, Museo Nazionale della Fotografia and The Ralph Lauren Collection. In addition to numerous gallery shows, her work has been exhibited at The Woodmere Art Museum, The Rose Lehrman Art Center, The Frye Art Museum, The Seattle Art Museum Gallery, The Whatcom Museum of History and Art, and Aperture NYC. Her work has been published in Frames Magazine, Lenscratch, Od Review, One Twelve, BETA Developments In Photography, Musée Magazine and Art New York. She works on both East and West coasts, and currently lives in Philadelphia.

Artist Statement
Blue Jay is from my "Whiskey Rebellion" series, in which I embellished a series of figurative whiskey decanters originally produced as collectibles by Jim Beam and their competitors in the 1960s and 70s. While most of "Whiskey Rebellion" focuses on Revolutionary War heroes, the birds serve as companions to the generals and soldiers, and are embellished in similar manner--teasing the flamboyance of military regalia by using charms, social action pins, and other contemporary materials to recontextualize and engage them in the current moment.
The use of birds has another reference as well, and that is to my 'day job' in the gift world. "Put a bird on it," was a refrain popularized by the TV show Portlandia, and refers to the timeless appeal of bird imagery at retail~ A factor at play in my selection of this work for the InLiquid benefit as well ;)

John Y. Wind is a multi-disciplinary artist, creating narrative portraits, assemblages and installations. He is also the co-founder of Maximal Art Inc, known for 40 years of 'Modern Vintage' fashion jewelry and gifts, sold internationally under the John Wind brand. His work has been shown and collected by the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, Musée des Arts Decoratifs, Paris, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Museum of the American Revolution and Woodmere Art Museum. A new exhibition, "Dear John: John Frederick Lewis, John Yaron Wind and the Rosenbach Brothers", is currently on view at the Rosenbach Museum & Library, Philadelphia through December 2026.

Artist Statement
This piece combines photo-silkscreen and painting. The halftone texture and layered pattern reference vintage advertising and decorative "feminine" aesthetics, while the pin-up pose and exaggerated palette point to the performance of beauty and desirability. It is meant to feel playful at first but also to suggest how women's bodies and identities are turned into visual products.

In my work in general, I layer photo-silkscreens, painting, typography, and pattern to re-contextualize pop culture imagery and explore gender bias, objectification, and empowerment. By combining seductive imagery with graphic pattern and irony, I aim to challenge normalized stereotypes and objectification while also reclaiming it and turning what is meant to be consumed, into something confrontational, empowered, and self-aware.

Wendee Yudis is a Serigraph Mixed Media Artist whose paintings and prints have been exhibited in solo and group shows in galleries in NYC, Chicago, and Philadelphia since the mid-1990's. Solo exhibitions include James Oliver Gallery (Phila), Ceres Gallery (NYC), Black Moth Gallery (Phila), and Gallery 1633 (Chicago). A selection of group exhibitions includes The Albright/Knox Museum (NY), Manhattan Graphics Center (NYC), Philadelphia Art Alliance, University of Pennsylvania: Penn Medicine, DaVinci Art Alliance in PA, and The Trenton Museum(NJ) and Pheonix Gallery (NYC).

Wendee Yudis received an MFA in Printmaking and Painting from Pratt Institute and BFA in Printmaking and Photography from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She also studied archaeology at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and photography at Richmond College in London.

In addition to being a visual artist, Wendee works as a Graphic Designer & Art Director for agencies and non-profits in NYC and Philadelphia.
