Captain Steve Schwartz has been sailing on the Woody since 1978. He was trained by Pete Seeger and Alan Anapu (1st Clearwater Captain) and is licensed by the Coast Guard to sail a 100-ton vessel. Steve is an adjunct professor of sailing at Marist College and is knowledgeable about all things Hudson River.

Olana was the home of renowned Hudson River School Artist, Frederick Church. The house is located on a ridge near the town of Hudson and overlooks a beautiful stretch of the river. Frederic Church envisioned Olana as a 250 acre environment, masterfully combining architectural, agricultural, park and wilderness elements into a single artistic composition. The grounds of Olana are crisscrossed with hiking trails where you can wander for hours. There is also a gift shop filled with beautiful books, jewelry and clothing all reflecting Church's artistic taste.

The house itself is filled with treasures collected by Church on his travels around the world. He was especially influenced by Moorish architecture which adds an oriental flavor to the design of the house and its contents. Frederick Church was involved in every detail of the design of this unique house.

They are anadromous, which means they hatch in the Hudson River and live here for several years, then swim to the Atlantic once they reach sufficient size. Striped Bass return to the Hudson to spawn each spring from April to May, where they are prized by sport fishermen.

This ceramic fish is approximately 13 inches in length and has hooks so it can be hung on a wall. It was made by Neall Burger at the Kingston Ceramic Studio.

Join the crew of S/V Resolution for a 5-day sail from Kingston NY to New Bedford MA from May 7-12. We sail down the Hudson River for almost 90 miles, passing through the Hudson Highlands before either heading down the south coast of Long Island or the north shore, depending on weather conditions. Either way, we will sail past New York City, get some open water sailing in, and anchor in a few beautiful anchorages. Potential ports of call include NYC, Port Jefferson, Block Island, Cuttyhunk, or a few other locations - again, depending on weather.

S/V Resolution is a beautifully maintained Cape Dory 45, a cutter-rigged ketch built for serious offshore passage making. She is hull #1 of only three built and therefore not a common sight. She was designed by the famous naval architect Carl Alberg, as one of his last and greatest designs, and built by the famous Cape Dory Yachts in East Taunton, Massachusetts in 1983.

Captain Joe Drago has spent his entire life on the water, both commercially and recreationally, accumulating more than 300,000 miles at sea including hundreds of days in the Gulf Stream. Captain Drago has been leading adventure sails up and down the Eastern seaboard for years, visiting ports from Kingston to Newfoundland.

Brian Mohan took this picture in 1998 when the Clearwater was tied up in Alpine, NJ. He used to get up before deck wash to walk bare foot around the sloop taking pictures of small details. As the sun rose over Yonkers, he took this backlit picture of the boom crutch. When he got back to his lab to develop the photo, the image jumped out at him. He decided to hand color the picture, and framed it under an enlarger to print a square image. This is one of five prints he made.

The image spoke to him of the way the communal efforts of the crew and the whole organization supports our mission and keeps us together.

The scene shows Overlook, Indian Head and High Peak ridge lines. The Clearwater moves north under full sail. In the foreground an Atlantic Sturgeon breaches out of the water, and nearby Glass America eels migrate upstream from the Sargasso Sea.

Elinor is a local ecologist and artist, and used all natural handcrafted paints, pigments and binders from the Indigenous artists at Beam Paints for the piece.

The painting measures 11 x 15 and 16 x 19 framed.

You are bidding on a colorful photo of Pete Seeger, Arlo Guthrie and John Cohen. The photographer, Gerald Kleiner, caught the three musicians enjoying each other's company on a sunny day at Pete's house in Beacon in 2012 at a celebration of Toshi's 90th birthday. Gerald's wife Barbara was related to Toshi, and the couple often visited the Seegers during the summer.

The photo is printed on canvas and measures 16" x 20". This is one of two copies.
