Founded in 1951 as Sleepy Hollow Restorations by John D. Rockefeller, Jr., Historic Hudson Valley is a nonprofit organization dedicated to celebrating the history, architecture, landscape, and culture of the Hudson Valley. While rooted in history, Historic Hudson Valley continues to evolve, contextualizing the past and serving as a valuable resource for education grounded in primary source documentation, historic sites, and objects.
Historic Hudson Valley's programs, events, and resources chronicle American history through a regional lens, including early Dutch settlement and colonialism, slavery in the colonial North, the Revolutionary War and New Nation period, the crafting of a shared national mythology and a uniquely American literary form, and the contributions of the region's women to history.
