Award-winning photographer Jim Herrington has spent 30 years building two careers: one behind a camera, one in global public health. He taught at UNC's Gillings School of Global Public Health. He served in the Peace Corps. He's also spent years on CFK Africa's board.

On auction are a pair of Jim's stunning photographic works. The first, "Little Bradley Falls," is of a 50-foot, multi-tiered waterfall in the Green River Game Lands near Saluda, North Carolina, reached by a 2-mile roundtrip hike through hardwood forest and wildflowers. Shot at f/2.8, 200mm, 1/8000 sec: fast enough to freeze water mid-fall. The second, "Upper Creek Falls," captures an 80-foot cascade in Pisgah National Forest in Burke County, reached the hard way: steep switchbacks down and back up.

Both are 16"x24," printed on high-gloss aluminum. The color and depth hold for decades, not years. Both are signed by the photographer.

Jim is technically retired now. He picked up his first camera as a Peace Corps volunteer in Senegal, decades before he'd earn a pilot's license for single-engine aircraft and drones. He still flies both. Retirement, for Jim, just meant trading one set of altitudes for another.

Tykevius McDowell is a visual artist with a decade of experience, working in abstract, expressionist, and figurative styles to explore the human experience through emotion and storytelling. His recent work, influenced by African culture and identity, includes a significant project, "Shapes and Stories," honoring local heroes and the artistic legacy of John and James Biggers. The Seeds We Carry reflects CFK's belief that sustainable change arises from empowered communities. At its center is a deteriorating home in Nairobi's slums, symbolizing the challenging beginnings many youth face, but also illustrating their potential for resilience and leadership. The children portrayed embody hope, with flowers and seeds symbolizing growth and the transformative power of support, demonstrating how today's young leaders can inspire future generations while remaining connected to their roots.

This is a very special, highly sought after wine lot for the serious collector, or for someone who simply wants to take home six extraordinary bottles of California wine. This is also one of the most difficult wines to get.

This item is a six-bottle collection from Sine Qua Non's legendary Eleven Confessions Vineyard, one of California's most coveted and inaccessible wineries. Inside this beautiful original wooden case are six bottles--three of the 2022 Eleven Confessions Syrah and three of the 2022 Eleven Confessions Grenache.

Here are the numbers:

The 2022 Eleven Confessions Grenache received a perfect 100 points from Jeb Dunnuck. And the 2022 Eleven Confessions Syrah received 99 points from Jeb Dunnuck AND 99 points from Vinous.

These are wines that collectors chase.

Sine Qua Non is famous for its incredibly limited production, its artistic labels and presentation, and the singular vision of founders Manfred and Elaine Krankl. The Eleven Confessions Vineyard is their estate vineyard in California's Sta. Rita Hills, producing wines known for extraordinary concentration, complexity and age-worthiness.

And these wines were given an extraordinary amount of time to develop-approximately 38 to 40 months in French oak before release. This means three bottles of intensely concentrated, powerful Syrah-and three bottles of luxurious, expressive Grenache.

You will not find these wines sitting on a retail shelf. If you love great wine, if you collect great wine, or if you want to give someone a very special a gift they will never forget, this is your lot.

In 2012, actress and activist Mia Farrow crossed from Rwanda into North Kivu, in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. The region was lawless and very dangerous, especially for women and girls. Families got by however they could, and men and children worked in the gold mines.

There she met the girl in these photographs. The girl wasn't sure how old she was, but she had a baby and a plan. She wanted to become a seamstress and earn enough to give her child a better life. The one thing standing in her way was a sewing machine.

Before Mia left, she gave money to an older woman the girl seemed to be living with, so the girl could buy one. Mia could only hope it happened.

The two photographs are 20x16 metal prints. Mia will write a personal note to the winning bidder.

Mia never found out how that story ended. The 28 young mothers who wrote Still, I Rise, the book we're launching in the U.S. tonight, are telling theirs themselves. All of them are part of CFK's Funzo Project, which helps teen mothers in Kenya's slums finish high school or find a path to a job. The book was edited by Siama Yusuf, who leads CFK's work with girls and young women, and Charlotte Barcott, a student at Myers Park High School right here in Charlotte. Your bid helps more young mothers finish school and find work, so they can take care of themselves and their children without having to leave it to hope.
