Ellie Vergura

Chicago-based oil painter Ellie Vergura received her Bachelor's in Studio Art at Agnes Scott College in 2019. Her work has been sold to numerous collectors in the States and abroad, including in France, England, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Germany, Australia and Canada. Her work has been exhibited in several U.S.-based group exhibitions and has been featured in magazines including Interior Design, Traditional Home, and Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles.

In 2021, Vergura was commissioned by Soho Myriad to create a large work for the Tribune Tower Residences in Chicago and was a final candidate artist for the Chicago Hyatt Regency re-model. In 2022, she earned a spot with Level57 Art Studio under the Deljou Art Group and was featured in their Summer 2023 Collection. In 2023, her work was featured in the Fall issue of Traditional Home magazine and in an exhibition review from Chicago Reader. In 2024, she debuted her first solo exhibition, ARDOR, with Jackson Junge Gallery and was featured in the widely acclaimed Interior Design magazine with a write-up covering her solo exhibition. She was also interviewed by WDCB Radio in their Arts Section segment which aired live in Chicago. In 2025, she released her first collection with the high-end home design brand, Theodore Alexander.

Artist Statement:

Vergura favors simplicity and a neutral palette. Revisiting iconic architecture and grandiose scenes with a "less is more" approach, she distills the essence of ornamentation and passersby in silhouette. The artist is influenced by her great-grandmother's 1920s fashion illustrations and draws regularly on such imagery in sketches and when planning her figures. She also pulls inspiration from city dwellers in her home of Chicago and elsewhere, as well as her family's ancestral home of Italy. Vergura intimately captures the nostalgia of a single moment, along with each space's tremendous history.

I am proud of the woman I am today because I had one hell of a time becoming her.

I am an artist! I have been an artist since I was a toddler. Art has given me an escape from this world of what I'm supposed to do and let me be who I want and who I am.

Art, color, painting is what and who I am, it's the blood that keeps me alive. I love the smell of paint, the feeling of paint on my hands, & the colors that I create to work together. Painting abstractly lets me live in a fantasy world that I control. You don't get to tell me what to do. I appreciate the paint and I have the power over the brush strokes. The canvas is mine, just mine.
I paint lines and squares. No circles. I want precise straight lines but only when you look from afar, up close I want my lines and squares to be a bit messy and unorganized. This is a peek into my soul.
Creating gives me strength and courage to reach for my dreams. The power to be true to myself and trust the timing of my life.
Painting geometrical shapes and patterns has a calming effect, letting my mind relax and become quiet. I get rid of all the outside noise and am just in the moment. I always feel that my best paintings are the ones I don't remember painting, I'm someplace else.
When you see my work I want you to be able to feel the strength of my courage as a woman. A new world being created one square at a time where I can have all my dreams and fantasies come true. A peaceful earth when looking down at the ground from an airplane.

Isabelle Gougenheim

Bio: Isabelle Gougenheim was born in Saint-Dié-des-Vosges, the town where the name America first appeared on a map. Surrounded by symbols, geography, and reused materials, she developed an early interest in storytelling through form and texture. These roots continue to shape her artistic practice. After earning a Master's in Fine Art and Ethnology in Strasbourg, she spent six months living with Berber tribes in Morocco. Stone holds a Bachelor of Arts in studio art and creative writing from Carleton College where she studied under artists Fred Hagstrom and David Lefkowitz, art historian Ross Elfline, and curator Margaret Pezalla-Granlund. The late artist, Larry McKim, was also a significant mentor in her early years before leaving the east coast.

Lizzie Selle Bio:

Lizzie Selle is an abstract artist, art curator and the founder of Lizzie Selle Studio and the West End Gallery in downtown La Grange, IL. Fueled by her deep passion for art and design as a powerful means of connection, she has built a thriving community that supports and empowers the local art community.

After spending the first decade of her career as a graphic and fashion designer, Lizzie began to paint as a part of a long healing journey following a car accident in 2019 that left her with a traumatic brain injury and chronic pain. She blends energizing colors with rich textures to spark moments of joy to inspire hope and celebrate resiliency. Pastel on paper. Precise and calm - the artist was struck by how this egret executed her night fishing with decisiveness and serenity. The artist often works in twos creating dual images side by side that are of the same subject but have distinct qualities - she likes to believe the works will link the two owners in mysterious ways. This is one of two paintings of Viper the Egret who was witnessed off on a trip to Little Palm Island in Florida.

Braimah Tayo Lawal, an American-born, Ghana-raised artist of Nigerian heritage, is a Chicago contemporary postmodern visual artist. His figurative abstract paintings explore motifs of the evolving meaning of home, grief, and identity. Inspired by his specific life memories from the late 2000's and his family's archived pictures, Braimah dissects his childhood using imagery, and symbolism as a means of storytelling to his audience. Much of his work is directed by the memory and grief surrounding the loss of his father, a ship's captain, who envisioned a different and more traditional path for his son. Though he would eventually love to create using oil paint, he primarily uses acrylic and oil pastel on canvas; Braimah's palette features the vibrant colors of the Ghanian and Nigerian flags blending cultural symbolism with his own life story and rooting his work in themes of culture, spiritual reflections, lineage, loss, and a sense of belonging.

During the pandemic, painting became Braimah's lifeline, transforming his passion into purpose and a practice that saved his life. Influenced by artists like Amoako Boafo, Kerry James Marshall, Henry Taylor, Ludovic Nkoth, Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, and Gideon Appah, he is inspired by their ability to translate personal and cultural narratives onto canvas. Likewise, Braimah views his art as a sacred dialogue between self, God, and community; an act of self-expression that he believes is both public and transformative. Through his paintings, he shares this gift to inspire youth and children of color, especially those from immigrant backgrounds, to embrace art and vulnerability unapologetically as both a birthright and a means of survival.

Braimah made his exhibition debut in a group show at the Springfield Museum of Art and since then he has gone on to be featured at other notable exhibitions, most recently at the Chicago Voyagers' 'Future Voyagers' exhibition which commissioned Chicago-based minority artists in the exploration of portrait paintings of diverse youth in the community. He recently collaborated as a live painter to promote Global Nigerian artist Burna Boy's upcoming 'No weakness' tour at the Afrobeats to the World event in Chicago.
