Refvge, 2025

Acrylic, graphite, and gold leaf on panel

About the Piece

Refvge is a reminder and celebration of the access to art we have in St. Louis. Like the pyramids of the Louvre, and the spiral of the Guggenheim, the sculpture of King Louis IX stands atop Art Hill to announce "art is found here."

About the artist
In addition to being the art teacher at Rosati-Kain Academy, Blaine Deutsch is an internationally exhibited artist. His work has been the subject of a long list of solo exhibitions and group shows, most notably, The National Printmakers Biennial. His work can be found in many private collections, as well as the permanent collection of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, MO. Blaine's work and studio practice has earned him residencies in New York, Lake Clark, Alaska, and Haukijärvi, Finland. His work is heavily influenced by post-war American art - abstract expressionism, neo-expressionism, and pop --with a nod to techniques developed centuries before.
