Mohonk Preserve Rangers play a pivotal role in keeping visitors safe while they enjoy nature. No two days are alike in this exciting role. The winning bidder will ride along with a Mohonk Preserve Ranger for four hours experiencing firsthand what it's like to be a Ranger. You'll be part of daily operations, checking and restocking supplies as needed and conducting a foot patrol along the popular Millbrook Ridge trail, making observations and providing guidance to hikers.

Experience first-hand what our land protection staff does to monitor the Preserve's boundaries. You and a friend will spend between a half and a full day with the Preserve's Associate Director of Land Protection & GIS, Ed Pestone, as you learn how to navigate using a survey map and elements on the ground such as stone walls, hedgerows, fence lines and property blazes. You'll learn how to identify property corners, understand how property lines are signed (posting protocol), and use a mobile app for GPS. You'll go off trail and get to see hidden locations that others rarely visit - and all with a purpose! Under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Limit two people. HRMM's fully solar-powered tour boat, Solaris, ferries passengers out to the Hudson River to dock at and explore the historic Rondout Lighthouse. You'll be in expert hands as you and five of your friends spend an afternoon hiking or biking with Mohonk Preserve Chief Ranger Dan Cassidy. The hike or bike adventure is totally customizable based on your interests and skill level.

One option is to start in the Mohonk Preserve Foothills at the Testimonial Gateway Tower, where Dan will share the history of this iconic property. Continue up Lenape Lane through open grasslands and heritage farmhouses, past Duck Pond, and on to the Trapps where you can check out climbers and boulderers in action!

Dan will customize the route for you depending on time of year and desired difficulty level. For hikers, you may even choose to include the well-known Labyrinth hike which includes the Lemon Squeeze and the Crevice, a section of ladders on your way to Sky Top!
