The 2025-2026 school year marks our 20th annual running/walking event, which helps fund a scholarship in memory of an admired and cherished West Side teacher, Karen Weeks. Karen taught at WSM from 1988 until she lost her battle with breast cancer in 2005. She wanted to leave her mark at West Side and requested in her will that a scholarship be established in her name. For the past 20 years, a scholarship has been awarded to a child whom the staff feels symbolizes all the best characteristics of a Montessori student. Our event is named after Karen's nickname, KDub.

Money raised through this event will go toward funding the Karen Weeks Memorial Scholarship and general tuition assistance. Thank you for your support!

Karen Weeks was an admired and cherished teacher at WSM from 1988 to 2005, and her legacy is the reason we have this amazing event! She was always there for the parents - advising, coaching, praising, and, with their help, molding their children into great people. Her passion was to instill in her children a love of learning. She built minds, but she also helped to build character, self-esteem, and self-respect. In 2000, Karen found out she had breast cancer. She and her family, both at home and at West Side, handled her illness with courage and hope. She fought hard and continued to teach until she lost her battle in 2005. Karen wanted to leave her market West Side and requested in her will that a scholarship be established in her name. West Side's fall fundraiser, "K'DUB," was named after K'Dub. Karen's nickname.

For the last twenty years, a scholarship has been awarded to a child who the staff feels symbolizes all the best characteristics of a Montessori student.
