Smokey Sailor
A smoky twist to an Old Fashioned cocktail, the Smokey Sailor starts with an unaged Joven Mezcal instead of whiskey, which gives it a smoky flavor and adds reposado tequila, which is lightly aged in oak and balances out the smoke and mimics some of the oaky flavors present in the classic Old Fashioned. Mixing these base ingredients with agave nectar and angostura bitters yields a drink that is delicious, balanced and sure to ignite the sailor in you!
About Kurt
Kurt has been a partner at Kruggel, Lawton CPA's for the last two decades and is finally starting to slow down, allowing him more time to work on his bartending skills! He and his wife Kristy are now empty nesters with their three children spread from Chicago to Minneapolis to Denver after they all graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. None of them followed in his footsteps at Kruggel, Lawton and none chose Kristy's boiler up path! In addition to working on his bartending skills, Kurt and his wife love the outdoors, skiing in the winter and cycling and sailing in the summer. You will likely find them in the summer sailing their boat "Axis Mundi" on Lake Michigan out of their home port of New Buffalo.

Kurt's accounting and advising profession and his desire to help his clients was the catalyst for his and his firms desire to get connected to Junior Achievement. Teaching the kids of the community about entrepreneurial endeavors, work readiness and financial literacy was right in their wheelhouse. Until last year when he retired from the board, he had been on the Junior Achievement board in some capacity since it restarted in the region in 2010, first as part of the regional board, then as the St. Joe County board treasurer until his move ten plus years ago to Elkhart when he took on the Elkhart County board treasurer role. While on the board he was part of the inception of the "BizTown" capital campaign, "The Taste of Achievement" and the "Business Legacy Hall of Fame Gala" and his firm has been a sponsor of each.
