About Marco Polo Stufano

Founding Director of Horticulture, Marco Polo Stufano, rewrote the rules of American gardening. With an eye for the unexpected and a deep reverence for plants, Marco established what has come to be colloquially known as the 'Wave Hill Way.'  His approach empowered gardeners to revel in the artistry and be inventive and daring with plants. Nature is art at Wave Hill because of him.

Marco also built a community through this work that continues to influence gardens across American and the globe today. His design legacy had inspired both professionals and home gardeners alike, making Wave Hill a 'must see' for anyone horticulturally inclined.

This influence is only furthered through the John Nally Internship, a program established by Marco in honor of John Nally, an early curator of Wave Hill's gardens known for his exceptional skill, warmth and dedication to the craft of horticulture. The internship program offers immersive, hands-on training over the course of the growing season and remains one of the most respected entry points into the field for aspiring horticultural professionals. With over 100 alumni working across the globe, where there's a garden, there's a Nally!
