The Benji dog in the 2018 "Benji" movie, released on Netflix, was adopted from the Humane Society of South Mississippi. The movie creators specifically sought a rescue dog and found the perfect fit in a mixed-breed female found wandering the streets of Pass Christian, Mississippi. This Benji's adoption was part of a larger effort to honor the spirit of the original Benji films, which also featured rescue dogs and helped inspire numerous adoptions.
