The Phyllis & Gene Baker Wheels to Ride Fund, established in 2024 during our 29th annual Polo on the Green event, honors two incredible champions for children. Longtime Variety supporters Phyllis and Gene Baker believed every child should have the chance to experience the simple joy of riding a bike - no matter their circumstances.

For many kids in our community, owning a bike feels out of reach. But with your support, we can change that.

Every $200 donated puts a brand-new bike, helmet, and lock into the hands of a child who needs it. More than just a mode of transportation, a bike represents freedom, confidence, and the pure excitement of being a kid.

These handy and portable seats provide postural support for children with special needs, enabling them to participate in a variety of activities like sitting at the dinner table, playing with siblings, and even riding in a grocery cart!

Our most-requested specialized bike by physical therapists, families, and children. There are many health benefits that come with cycling, especially for children with special needs - both physically and mentally. These bikes are user friendly, easily adjustable, and completely customizable.

These specially designed activity chairs provide necessary support and positioning for kids living with special needs, enabling them participate in activities like learning, playing and eating.

Handcycles allow kids living with special needs like Spina Bifida still experience the joy of riding a bike! These bikes are propelled by hand cranks that help strengthen muscles and improve endurance while having fun.

This is a lightweight, compact stroller that folds like an "umbrella" style stroller and promotes upright sitting posture. These strollers provide a safe, secure way for children to be out in their community.

Standers allow for physical development and greater social interaction, enabling children who may have previously been in a wheelchair for a majority of their lives to be eye to eye and smile to smile with their friends.

A dirty restroom floor. The trunk of a car. A changing table that's too small (and therefore dangerous). Staying home. These are the choices that families with children living with special needs have to make when they need to change an adult diaper. This problem was first brought to our attention at Polo on the Green in 2021, when Charlie (pictured) needed to be changed, and his mom Nancy changed him on the floor. She explained this is a common occurrence when they are out in public, but the solution is simple - adjustable height universal changing tables are needed for public spaces.

This year, Variety received a record-breaking number of applications via our grant program for these special needs changing tables. Help us rise to meet the needs of our community and bring dignity, safety, and accessibility to more families by donating to fulfill this need!
