In Memory of Angel Rae Hojnacki Wagner (cousin)
December 5, 2005 - February 13, 2018
T-Cell Leukemia
Angel was more like a big sister to Aubreana than a cousin. When Angel was diagnosed, Aubre was only three and a half - too young to understand why her best friend suddenly couldn't play, go on walks, or share adventures anymore. She watched as Angel lost her hair, visited her in the hospital, and saw her grow weaker during those final nine weeks.
When Angel passed away, Aubre was just four. She didn't understand where Angel went or when she would be back. She wanted to return to the funeral home - the last place she saw her - believing Angel might still be there. For a while, she felt Angel's presence and spoke to her in her own special way. But as she's grown, that connection has faded, replaced by questions and the ache of missing her.
It has now been seven years without Angel. Aubre still misses her hugs, her laughter, and wonders what her cousin would be like today - how she'd look, sound, and smile. To honor her, our family delivers gifts to Children's Hospital each year in Angel's memory, and Aubre helps Grandma make comfort baskets for families experiencing loss. We do random acts of kindness in Angel's name, celebrate her birthday and "wing day," and always save her a seat at the table for every holiday and special occasion.
Our goal is simple - that Angel is never forgotten. She was too young to create her own legacy, so it's our job to continue it for her.
