About the Courage Cabinet
Cuyuna Regional Medical Center is committed to enhancing access to services for cancer patients in the Brainerd Lakes Area. Our vision is that every individual facing cancer can do so with dignity, confidence, and serenity. The Courage Cabinet aims to ease the financial burden of cancer patients, improving their health and well-being during a challenging time.
A cancer diagnosis can be devastating not only physically and emotionally but financially as well. The costs of surgery, treatment, medication, and travel can quickly overwhelm patients and their families, especially for those with limited resources. Even with insurance, co-payments and out-of-pocket costs can add up. If treatment requires traveling to a distant facility, the added costs of travel can become a significant hardship.
To help alleviate these financial pressures, CRMC established the Courage Cabinet. This fund provides support for non-medical needs, including gas cards or vouchers for travel to treatment, hotel stays, meals, and even groceries. The fund can also be used to help pay for medical bills, medications, non-covered medical equipment, and supplies if the patient or their families are unable to cover these costs.
The Courage Cabinet is available to all CRMC cancer patients within our service area. Our goal is to provide financial assistance for those affected by cancer, addressing social determinants of health. Each patient may receive up to $1,000 annually, with additional gas cards available at CRMC's discretion.
Donations to the Courage Cabinet are used to:
- Provide medications, medical equipment, travel assistance, and other vital resources to patients
- Help cover medical services for those who are uninsured or under-insured
