This custom-painted ostrich egg, provided by Netty the Ostrich, was hand-painted by local artist Laura Caffey.

Laura is a mixed media artist and retired nurse-midwife working in oil, acrylics, watercolor, glass, and resin. Laura had her first art lesson at the age of 11 in oil colors. She went on to take classes off and on throughout her life. After retiring from the nursing profession in 2020, Laura was able to devote time to her art, focusing first on glass and resin work. Laura's work is exhibited at the Gulf Coast Arts Alliance Gallery and Fine Arts Festivals throughout Baldwin County, AL. Laura lives with her husband Pat on Bon Secour Bay in the Gasque community of Fort Morgan, AL.

This ostrich egg, provided by Netty the Ostrich, was hand-painted by local artist Tommy Vogel.

Depicting the beautiful Ostriches that live here at the Zoo, Netty, Poppy, and Clover.

Tommy Vogel is on the Executive Board of the Gulf Coast Arts Alliance (GCAA) and is the GCAA Resident Artist. He is a self-taught artist, working in realist from in pastel as well as acrylic.

Vogel has won numerous awards for his work and has been featured in many publications throughout Coastal Alabama and Florida.

Coastal living inspires many of Vogel's paintings, through his subject matter is unlimited. HIs work is displayed in several Galleries along the Gulf Coast.

His first love is teaching the joy of creating to both children and adults through classes at the Gulf Coast Arts Alliance.

He and his wife, Judy, reside in Gulf Shores.
