Tom Balding started building bits in the early 1980s in Ucross, Wyoming. One of the first mouthpieces he designed and manufactured was the Ucross, named after that humble beginning. He later refined it by adding two copper rollers to the center, creating the now-iconic Double Cross. More than 40 years later, this mouthpiece remains our most popular design. Known for its smooth transition from a snaffle, the Double Cross is often called the "no-brainer" because of its universal acceptance among horses across various disciplines.
