The Woody Guthrie is a replica of a popular gaff-rigged Hudson River sloop from the days of yore. It is owned and operated by the Beacon Sloop Club, offering educational sails five evenings a week.

Built for Pete Seeger in 1978 by the Bearsville Woodworking Cooperative, she was designed by Cy Hamlin at approximately 1/3 of the size of the Clearwater. Named in honor of his friend and folk legend Woody Guthrie, the Woody embodies Pete's vision of local community access and involvement in the Hudson River.

Captain Steve Schwartz has been sailing on the Woody since 1978. He was trained by Pete Seeger and Alan Anapu (1st Clearwater Captain) and is licensed by the Coast Guard to sail a 100-ton vessel. Steve is an adjunct professor of sailing at Marist College and is knowledgeable about all things Hudson River.

The Solaris charter will depart from and return to the Maritime Museum's dock, traveling down the Rondout Creek and into the Hudson River. Along the way, you will see the Kingston Lighthouse, birds such as eagles and herons, and a beautiful stretch of the river.

She can travel up to 50 miles at night without the use of her solar panels. Even on cloudy days, the solar panels are so efficient that they continue to power the batteries.
