This stunning ceramic trio is donated by Sewickley Academy's Ceramic's Teacher, David Lalomia! Each pot is uniquely wheel-thrown, fired in a gas reduction kiln to achieve a rich variety of surfaces inspired by traditional Japanese glazes. Subtle variations in tone and texture highlight the individuality of each form while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic. Designed with utility in mind, all three pots are fully functional and capable of holding water.
David C. LaLomia grew up in western New York and has been drawn to the woods, sports, art and his family. He attended The College of Wooster Ohio where he earned his BA degree with a major in Visual Arts (focus in ceramics) and a minor in Education. Upon graduating in 1998, David stepped into a multifaceted role at Sewickley Academy. He was tasked with creating and teaching a Pre-K through 12th grade ceramics program, as well as coaching lacrosse.
Using his diverse skill set he was able to flourish at The Academy and continues to teach there today. He is constantly exploring different techniques, clays, glazes, and firings. He has used wood fire, soda fire, gas, reduction, electric oxidation, pit fire, and raku. David can often be seen in and around Sewickley wearing a hoodie, khakis, boots and covered in clay. We value David LaLomia as an employee, mentor, and artist!
