A North Carolina native, Paul completed a BA in Political Science at UNC Charlotte while maintaining his lifelong connection with Textile Art. Following the completion of his BA, Paul moved abroad to South Korea to work in English language education. While abroad, he created more figurative and conceptual work through newly self-taught skills in knitting and weaving. In late 2022, Paul began looking at MFA programs that had weaving offerings, and in summer 2023, he returned to his home state after 17 years in South Korea in order to continue living his life by following his passion. Paul is currently enrolled in the MFA program at ECU in Textile Design and is due to graduate in Spring 2026.

As an expressionist artist from Eastern North Carolina, vast landscapes immersed in light and shadows have influenced Cambron Farris's subjects for the art created. Scenes to invoke fond memories create soul and purpose with the interaction between light and color.

The technique for creation is one that she has studied through vintage pieces she has collected while immersing herself in the works of Women Expressionists. Using raw canvas and mixed media, such as acrylic and ink, layers are poured upon each other to create unique shapes. Each layer becomes defined by not only the combination of shapes, but also the relationship of hue and value. Her main vision is to emphasize the correlation between light and darkness, and to recreate a feeling of calmness and solitude in a memory.

Jillian Goldberg is an abstract, contemporary mixed-media artist. Her first love is working in acrylics on large canvases, but she also enjoys exploring collage and watercolors on paper and wood panel. Her work reflects her love of bold architectural shapes inspired by travels in Europe and the Middle East. Strong, clear, saturated color choices suggest the sunlight of her coastal childhood in South Africa. Jillian attended the Michaelis School of Art at the University of Cape Town, graduating with a teaching degree in studio art. After immigrating to the USA with her family in 1982, she taught art at all levels for over thirty years in Charlotte and in the Triangle, North Carolina. Since retiring from full-time art education in 2006, she has been painting and showing work in juried group and solo shows in the area. She has been a founding member of two cooperative galleries and has been represented by two galleries in the Charlotte area. In 2019, she was successful in mounting a three-woman show at the NC Greenville Museum of Art. One of her works is in the permanent collection.

James has always been drawn to expression through art, whether in pen and ink, watercolor, or wood. While mostly self-taught, he was privileged to study with Leone Cooper, a well-known St. Louis artist, while attending high school in Webster Groves, Mo. Following high school, he pursued a career in medicine, completing medical school at the University of Missouri, and residency at Duke Eye Center. The ensuing years as an ophthalmic surgeon were professionally and artistically fulfilling as he was able to incorporate his love of fine detail and creative mastery to the benefit of my patients. Now, in retirement, he is finding satisfaction in re-exploring other avenues of expression. The creation of these hand-crafted boxes has truly been a joy!

Claude Howell, born in 1915 in Wilmington, North Carolina, was an artist closely tied to coastal NC. His artworks often featured subjects that reflected his home, including seascapes, docks, and fishermen. Understanding his subject was incredibly important to Howell, who had once stated that he refused to "paint anything unless I know all about it." While not formally trained as an artist, Claude Howell founded the art department at the University of North Carolina - Wilmington and mentored many students.

Clemencia Neyland studied at the School of Art and Design in NYC and was a member of the Future Teacher Arts Group for special needs children. She also took courses at the Art Students League in NYC. Neyland worked primarily as a Stylist and salon owner for over 45 years, where she exhibited artists of all mediums on a quarterly basis showcasing their work.
In the interim, she served as a volunteer for the Ronald McDonald House of NY for 12 years, curating art exhibitions and fundraisers benefitting the children and families there. She also helped with exhibitions in Downtown Yonkers, NY (Evolution Arts District), highlighting up-and-coming street artists and Outsider art to revive the rehabilitation of its Downtown area.
Neyland is primarily self-taught with mixed media and acrylic mediums.

Morgan grew up always being drawn to various art forms. Since the age of 10, she has engaged in photography, creative writing, and sculpting. She discovered ceramics her first year of high school and soon realized it to be her favorite endeavor to pursue. Since she has other interests, she is pursuing a career in conservation work. She received her degrees as a B.S. in Biology as well as a B.S. in Ecology; however, she also included a Studio Art minor since she has never been able to let her passion for the arts go. As part of that pursuit, she learned much more about the three-dimensional arts, including sculpting, construction, and large metal welding, alongside ceramics. Whilst she worked various jobs in animal care and conservation, she then took classes in ceramics and also found an interest in textiles and painting as hobbies at home. Currently, she is attending ECU for her master's degree in Recreation Sciences with a focus in Conservation Psychology and quickly discovered Emerge downtown. From the beginning of her masters (and hopefully well beyond the end) she has honed her ceramics skills there in hopes of becoming good enough to sell my artwork someday. Even if she never can sell, she has found being able to create from clay rewarding enough.

Jonathan Bowling grew up on a small farm in Kentucky, where the Appalachian Mountains melt into the rolling hills of the Bluegrass. His first sculptural efforts were the simple games of childhood--fieldstone castles, a bridle of hay twine, a driftwood armada. As a teenager in the late eighties, Bowling lived in Belgium, where he had access to the museums of Western Europe. On his return to the states he attended the University of Kentucky where he received his BFA in sculpture and a BA in art history. In 1996 he moved to Greenville, North Carolina, to pursue an MFA in sculpture at East Carolina University in 1999. He has been working out of his Greenville studio ever since. Bowling has showed extensively in the Eastern United States, which has resulted in a number of long term lease agreements and sales to municipalities and private collectors.

Her work explores the idea of photographs existing as a substitution for memory and how photographic manipulation can change how we remember events. This allows viewers to invest a part into the transfer and reconstruction of these personal memories. Earl's work challenges us to focus and appreciate small moments we are surrounded by and how they shape our outward attitudes and understandings of what we consider home.

James Warren has a BS degree from ECU in industrial arts and a masters degree in rehabilitation studies. He had a career as a Rehabilitation Engineer with the State of North Carolina. He has spent his life exploring creative design concepts in the construction industry, and in home designs for people with disabilities.

James' creative efforts range from furniture building to design and creation of stringed musical instruments. He also enjoys jewelry making including enameling and repurposing old silverware into bracelets.

For the past two and a half years James has focused on photography and watercolor painting. He has had several classes, but is mostly self taught. He is retired and spends most of his time traveling, taking photos, and creating watercolor paintings from his photos. His inspiration for creating art is found in nature and focused on reflections, shadows, musical themes, boats, and water birds. He finds great beauty in nature and it steers his vision as he explores and creates. He shares his passion for art with his art, who is also an artist and a great inspiration for him.

Karen Warren believes she has been looking at the world with an artist's eye all her life. As a child, she was seldom without pencil and paper. Through the years, she has used many materials in her creations, including watercolor, acrylic, oils, paper, clay, and metal. She started making and selling jewelry in college and still has an affinity for wearable art.

She loves the idea of transformation, of old materials being used to create something new and, conversely, new materials made to resemble something old. She often uses hidden images to convey beauty and to create a sense of mystery and intrigue. As an artist, she continually strives to improve her ability to relate her inner world to the outer world through imagery. Alice Walker once said, "artists are messengers." Karen believes that's true. What drives her is her quest through art to reveal the layers in every person's life, and in the natural world. She hopes the message of her art transmits the idea of the world unseen and the mysteries within life.

Gail Ritzer received her B.S. in Art Education from the University of Missouri-Columbia and an M.F.A in Ceramics and Painting from East Carolina University. She has been exhibiting her work nationally since 1980 at such locales in New York, the University of Missouri-St. Louis, Eastern Kentucky University, and the University of Nebraska. Her work has appeared in several publications including: FiberArts Design Book, Art/Quilt Magazine, and exhibition catalogs. Gail has been fortunate to receive a number of grants from the North Carolina Arts Council to pursue a variety of personal and community arts projects. She has been teaching surface design techniques, mixed media methods, painting, and ceramics to students of all ages for many years at workshops, as Outreach Coordinator for the Greenville Museum of Art, and as an instructor at the Pitt County Arts Council at Emerge.

Mark Rasdorf was introduced to the mosaic glass process by an artist in West Jefferson shortly after he finished graduate school at Appalachian State in 2013. The process uses reclaimed windows, glass, silicone glue, and grout and it has become a very fulfilling self-care practice, as well as a creative outlet. Rasdorf was honored to have an exhibit of his work at Emerge in September 2022 which was one of the most ambitious undertakings involving his art, as he created several large pieces exclusively for the show. The interplay of color, light, and texture is one of the most intriguing and compelling aspects of this work.
