Hannah Diomataris (b. 1986) works primarily in mixed media collage, interested in using everyday materials to explore themes of time, material culture, and sustainability. Artist Bio:

Elizabeth Few is a mixed-media artist, living and working in Richmond, Virginia. She received a BA in art history from the College of Charleston and a degree in fashion design from Parsons School of Design. Her work extends to collage, painting, fashion, and textile design.

In addition to her art, she established Leizu by Elizabeth Few Studio in 2016, which consists of botanically dyed silk pillowcases, apparel, and home goods. Her work has been acknowledged by Forbes, Vogue, and Elle Decor.

Susie Ganch

Artist Bio:

The labor-intensive, site-specific installations of Susie Ganch (born 1970 in Appleton, WI; lives and works in Richmond, VA) incorporate throwaway materials such as recycled jewelry, plastic bags, and disposable coffee cup lids. Her work offers a pointed commentary on the effects of human culture and consumption on the environment. Ganch's art exemplifies a belief in a circular economy that operates like a natural ecosystem, promoting the use of existing and finite resources sparingly and expanding recycling exponentially. The idea put forth is that if we use less, use things longer, and recycle as much as possible, we can eventually eliminate trash by not creating it. Trained as a jeweler and metalsmith, Ganch says of her recent work, "Trading metal for plastic, a ubiquitous symbol that celebrates our worship of the present and disregard for the future, I make antimemorials born out of eco-anxiety." Ganch's undergraduate studies in Geology and her subsequent MFA in Metals from the University of Wisconsin-Madison have shaped her interest in issues of waste and
cultural consumption habits. In addition to her studio work, Ganch has been commissioned for large-scale installations throughout the country, the most recent at Sweet Briar College (Amherst, VA) that address these concerns. In that same vein, Ganch is the co-founder and director of the Radical Jewelry Makeover project, a global jewelry mining and recycling initiative that has traveled worldwide. Ganch has received multiple recognitions including the 2024 James Renwick Alliance Distinguished Educator Award, and the 2024 Society of North American Goldsmiths' IMPACT award. Other awards include the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Fellowship, the Peter S. Reed Foundation Grant, the Theresa Pollack Fine Art Award, a VA Commission for the Arts Grant, and several VCU Faculty Research Grants. Her work has been featured in museum exhibitions nationally and internationally, including the Smithsonian American Art Museum Renwick Gallery, Washington D.C, the North Carolina Museum of Fine Art, Raleigh, NC, the National Museum for Women in the Arts,

Mary Fleming's sculptural work transforms the detritus of everyday life into striking, three-dimensional forms that critique the throwaway culture of modern society. Drawing on her background in Metalsmithing from Virginia Commonwealth University, Fleming incorporates materials such as protein powder containers, prescription bottles, and toilet paper rolls-objects emblematic of convenience and waste. Through an intuitive, puzzle-like process, she reassembles these discarded items into layered, cohesive sculptures. Each piece celebrates the overlooked potential of materials destined for the landfill, offering a new narrative of beauty and resilience. Fleming's work mediates on the tension between creation and consumption, inviting viewers to confront the environmental and cultural impact of their habits. By transforming the mundane into the extraordinary, she challenges us to reconsider our relationship with waste and to see value where it is often dismissed.

My name is Sam Christian (They/Them) and I'm a mixed media installation artist focusing on the celebration of black and queer stories, good and bad. My work talks to my experiences growing up in the south as the grandkid of a quilter, parentified first-born and black body existing within the "American Dream". These ideas show up in multiple forms of media including Fiber(Quilting), Ceramics and digital design all book-ended with my backgrounds in writing and performance. I write to convey the chaos of queer childhood, I perform with the dreams of my community on my back. I explore and celebrate the utility of black art and the need to preserve ones self in the face of adversity. My work asks every viewer to question their personal ideas of liberation and community care.

Artist Bio:

Christine Orr (b. 1993) is an interdisciplinary artist whose work weaves together the tactile realms of clay, fiber, paper-making, and poetry. Based in Richmond, Virginia, her practice is an ongoing exploration of how humans and objects co-evolve; shaping, and being shaped by one another. Through a deep engagement with material culture, she investigates the intimate connections between domestic and utilitarian items, considering not only their functional roles but also their metaphorical and symbolic resonances. By examining the substances from which objects are made, she uncovers layers of meaning and speaks to the quiet stories embedded in the materials we often overlook. Christine holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University (2015) and a Master of Fine Arts in Craft/Material Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University (2021). As a professor of ceramics at both the University of Mary Washington and Virginia Commonwealth University, she continues to foster a dialogue between students and the physical world, guiding the next generation of artists in their explorations of craft and meaning.

Artist Bio:

Genevieve Dowdy is a mixed media artist and arts educator. She's a graduate of VCU School of the Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in arts education, and a graduate of University of Richmond with a Master of Liberal Arts in interdisciplinary humanities. She has been teaching high school art since 1999, and is currently Lead Visual Arts Teacher at the Henrico High School Center for the Arts where she has taught since 2006. She is also an adjunct professor at Reynolds Community College School of Humanities and Social Sciences.

When she is not working as a mixed media artist in her home studio or traveling to AP and humanities conferences, she enjoys hiking, biking and traveling with her husband Jeff and son Kylan, and fostering dogs for various Richmond animal rescues.

Jonathan Lee is an artist and librarian based in Richmond Virginia. His studio practice explores ephemeral memory, secret histories, and social constructions, often through abstracting activated materials. His social practice utilizes multi-modal approaches to engage individuals, small groups, and communities through discussion, art making, and display. Artist Bio:

Margaret Meehan is an artist living and working in Richmond, VA. Her work is a research-based, multidisciplinary exploration that pulls from film, music, popular culture, folklore, and traditional crafts. She considers the origins of outcasts through their representation - in particular, the tendency for women and societal "others" to be seen as monsters. Meehan's research includes teratology and medicine, ornithology, the esthetics of cuteness, materiality in high and low culture as well as modes of feminist protest. This all stems from her curiosity about the lines that separate what is protected from what is feared and how gendering plays into these expectations. Her work has been shown at ArtPace San Antonio, the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, The Dallas Museum of Art, Flowers Gallery in London, Conduit Gallery in Dallas, and Ulterior Gallery in New York. I created this piece to mark the act of folding and unfolding of a crane, unfolding of peace, healing and resilience. I was thinking about both the cultural significance as well as the meaning a simple crease in paper can hold.
