One of the most exciting aspects of a visit to Gibbs Farm is a game of lacrosse! Lacrosse has been played for centuries by Dakota people and Gibbs Farm provides opportunities for kids to try out this fun game on our Dakota Tours and Dakota Summer Camps. In order to provide enough sets for large groups, we are asking for donations to help purchase this handcrafted equipment. Lacrosse sticks are purchased from a Native artisan. Each set costs $200 and includes two (2) lacrosse sticks and one (1) leather ball.
Have you ever been inside a tipi? This is one of the highlights of Gibbs Farm's Dakota programming. Students adore the tipi, often gasping as they enter the tipi to learn about Dakota winter life and storytelling.
The two tipi at Gibbs Farm are integral to over half our programming including the new year-round Dakota history field trips, Saint Paul Kindergarten field trips, summer camps, and public tours.
As the site maintains one tipi year-round for winter programing, covers degrade quickly and need to be replaced every few years. One cover costs $2,000. Your $50 goes a long way towards helping us maintain this important resource!
Historical costuming is essential to set the scene for Gibbs' pioneer-era programming! Gibbs Farm provides dresses, shirts, cloaks, and hats for staff and volunteers to wear during Field Trips, Summer Camps, and Events, enriching the student and guest experience. A high quality, handmade prairie dress or shirt lasts several years.
Your $50 helps Gibbs Farm by contributing towards the purchase of fabric to make pioneer clothes!
Maintaining eight acres of gardens, prairies, and orchards isn't easy! Still, Gibbs Farm has an amazing core of volunteers ready to roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty. What Gibbs Farm needs are tools and equipment to help them get their jobs done. Wheelbarrows, buckets, shovels, mulch and compost, work carts, garden gloves, cold frames, and plant markers are always much appreciated.
Your $50 will go a long way towards helping Gibbs Farm and our volunteers maintain its beautiful grounds.
Bless our hearts! An automated external defibrillator (AED) is a critical piece of equipment that can help save lives during an emergency. AEDs are used to help those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. It's a sophisticated, yet easy-to-use, medical device that can analyze the heart's rhythm and, if necessary, deliver an electrical shock, or defibrillation, to help the heart re-establish an effective rhythm.
Safety precautions are of the utmost importance at Gibbs Farm. Your $50 contribution towards the purchase of a $1,500 AED for the Annex Office building will free up financial resources to augment student and guest experiences. Note: Gibbs Farm does have one AED for use on site. However, the site encompasses eight acres and every second counts during an emergency.
