Diced, Scattered, Chunked, Stripped, TORN framed drawing and composition: This piece is a one-of-a-kind original watercolor, ink, and charcoal composition on two different types of paper. The art is 18" x 24" and is matted and framed to final dimensions of 24" x 30". About the artists: The primary artist of this piece is Mary Beth ('MB') Andrews. MB's work is created in the moment and most often as a direct response to live studio figure models. She is a two-time cancer survivor and recently published her first book, Torn, a composition of mixed-media portraits drawn from live models in her studio in Little 5 Points where she still practices and teaches art. Meagan Barbee, who is amongst MB's many students and composed the diced and stripped face pieces from two different drawings of a man and a woman at a workshop for MB's book launch. The piece signifies the journey of a transgender person with a suiting name that gives nod to an Atlanta-based breakfast company.
Photo was taken at dusk in White Sands National Park, which at that time was a National Monument. It's an amazing place, and the sand is so white you really don't dare go there on a sunny day without dark glasses, or you may go "snow blind". There's no nearby year-round water, but the dunes are so extensive they can be seen from outer space. The tiny human figures in the background add scale. Shot with a Nikon film camera on a tripod, using Fuji Velvia ISO 50 slide film by Dr. Jerome Walker
