Artist bioI am a graduate of Cal State University Long Beach, with a BFA in Ceramics and a BA in Art Education. To have a career that highlights both these skills is such a joy! I love how teaching requires one to constantly grow and learn in order to meet the interests and needs of students. Because of this, I am continually learning more about artists, art making and everything in between which feeds my curiosity and artistic practice.
I am enchanted by the tactile relationship and physical interactions we have with functional objects. I am drawn to mugs in particular because they ask to be held, cradled, and can become part of our daily rituals.
To make these forms, I wheel throw and then slice, stretch and alter the clay to capture the malleability and softness of clay that is often lost after it's fired. The exterior of these pieces are left unglazed both to highlight the natural colors of the clay bodies and to introduce a more tactile stone-like quality that engages your senses and brings attention and mindfulness to that moment in your day.
