Through abstracting the work, I let the shapes continue - another metaphorical choice used to explain the ever-growing research being conducted in the search for a cure for Alzheimer's Disease. This piece represents scientific and human triumph through the quest for knowledge, renewal, and hope."

"Hope," a piece by Wisconsin artist Vicky Siegel, is meant to be a vision of hope for all those living with Alzheimer's or other dementia and their caregivers. The twin sister of Alzheimer's Association Board President Rebecca Reichelt, Siegel drew her inspiration from the flower on our gala invitation. She has 32 years of experience as an elementary art teacher and has a passion for creating stunning works that captivate the imagination.
Wisconsin-born artist Marianne Huebner studied Fine Art at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee as well as abroad in Florence, Italy. She's a leader in the art therapy world, having presented at national conferences and earning international awards for her work with grieving families.
From the artist: "My Grandmother was Mary Anne (Sprangers) Gruenke. She was the stuff of legends, racing teenagers at stoplights in her convertible Thunderbird and bowling with a rowdy league of ladies known as the "Afternoon Delights." She was brilliant and vibrant-until Alzheimer's began to ravage her. It started with her forgetting her signature recipes and progressed to forgetting her own children. There were times she didn't recognize her husband of 50+ years but could recognize his voice, saying, "That's mine!" As a gardening enthusiast, she loved daisies. When I was asked to contribute a painting for this event, I knew they were only fitting. Grandma died in 2001 due to complications from Alzheimer's disease."

Cedar is a representation of a spiritual belief in the Native AmericanCulture as a source of protection and healing. The purple ribbon charm represents Alzheimer's awareness. The flower petal and the painting on the outside of the ornament represents the Woodland Print. The Woodland floral Print represents Native American Tribes in the Great Lakes. These ornaments are one of a kind and were made by those who are living with some form of Dementia.
