Workshop Registration

Wes Heart
"Baubles, Gems, and Jewels"
Cold Working, Assemblage, and Mixed Media
June 16 - 20, 2025 (5-day workshop)

If you are captivated by shiny objects, this class is for you! Come learn how to create glass gems and jewels in the cold shop. Hone your Hxtal lamination and glass carving skills with guided instruction and detailed demonstrations. Learn the basics and a few advanced techniques that can take your pieces from nice to spectacular.

Your gems will be made using dichroic glass, float glass, mirror, and a variety of laminated glass that will be prepared for you ahead of time. You can even bring your own glass you'd like to carve. Learn how to drill holes and finish them beautifully in preparation for jewelry findings. We'll cover how to make simple cord necklaces.

More advanced concepts of jewelry design and fabrication will be discussed at length, but metal fabrication will need to be explored individually outside of class. Expect to leave with a pile of gems to add to your hoard!

All levels are welcome, however, having coldworking experience will allow for massive growth in exploration and technique.

This class meets from 9am to 5pm each day, Monday through Friday, with additional studio time Monday through Thursday, from 5pm to 9pm. Materials for participating in the course are included. If you have specific glass or materials you would like to work with, please bring them with you.

Wes Heart is an artist, designer, and educator living in Philadelphia. He holds two degrees in glass, a BFA from Southern Illinois University of Carbondale and MFA from Tyler School of Art and Architecture at Temple University. He is the CEO/Founder of Blob Blob Studio and also teaches in the Art Glass Program at Salem Community College's Glass Education Center in Southern New Jersey.

Wes's current work utilizes a playful approach to form and function. He founded Blob Blob Studio to focus on creating designs that do both. By intuitively collaging media and process, he exaggerates each material's beauty. Using bold color, the optical properties of glass, light, and texture, he creates impactful sculptural forms that demand further investigation.

His work has been featured in New Glass Review, published by the Corning Museum of Glass and he has received multiple awards, including a Windgate Fellowship, the Rickert-Ziebold Trust Award, an AACG Visionary Scholarship, and is a 2022 Center for Craft Career Advancement Fellow.
