The club name does not symbolize a golf term. Original owner John McConnell was a fortune hunter, and the Double Eagle was a rare doubloon discovered in a sunken treasure.

It took three years for amateur golf historian Peter Flory to recreate a 3D digital model of the lost Lido that's based on historical information and photos of the original design. This comprehensive research and visual modeling, originally done for a computer game, were shared with Tom Doak and the Keiser family to faithfully recreate the original 18-hole par 72 layout.

The Lido at Sand Valley Golf Resort is a faithful recreation of a long-gone layout once celebrated as the best in the world. The original version was built on New York's Long Island in the early 1900s by renowned architects C.B. Macdonald and Seth Raynor but demolished by the U.S. Navy during World War II as the land was used to support the war effort. While the course was lost, its mystique grew over the years.

Amidst its pines, scrub oaks, gnarly bunkers, chocolate drop mounds, wavy fescue and briar bushes are hints of Baltusrol, National Golf Links, Pine Valley, Pinehurst No 2 and Chicago Golf Club in its cross-bunkering, hazard placement and sandy waste areas. The greens are some of the most rolling of any Coore & Crenshaw design, seeded with a half-dozen bent varieties to give them an old-fashioned mottled appearance. Along with the 2002 Curtis Cup, Fox Chapel Golf Club has hosted a number of golf tournaments during its illustrious history. In 1997 and 2011, the Club hosted the Lesley Cup, the longest running Team Amateur Tournament in the country. In 1985, the Women's US Amateur was contested at the Club along with the 1968 US Senior Amateur. Traditionally, the club prides itself in hosting amateur events such as the Pennsylvania Amateur and Open; US Open Women's Qualifier; Curley Semple Cup, 1st President's Memorial; Women's WPGA Four Ball Stroke Play and Western PA Amateur and Open.

Quaker Ridge returned to America's 100 Greatest in 2013 thanks to a revision by Gil Hanse that included removal of many trees and the rebuilding of bunkers. Hanse also expanded several greens back to Tillinghast dimensions but reduced the size of the par-4 17th green, chopping off a left-hand lobe added by Frank Duane in 1964. Quaker's strong suit has long been its powerful par 4s and Hanse strengthened them all, including the par-4 sixth, squeezed between a creek and hillside, and the drive-and-pitch 11th, where the green is girdled by a stream.

It took three years for amateur golf historian Peter Flory to recreate a 3D digital model of the lost Lido that's based on historical information and photos of the original design. This comprehensive research and visual modeling, originally done for a computer game, were shared with Tom Doak and the Keiser family to faithfully recreate the original 18-hole par 72 layout.

The Lido at Sand Valley Golf Resort is a faithful recreation of a long-gone layout once celebrated as the best in the world. The original version was built on New York's Long Island in the early 1900s by renowned architects C.B. Macdonald and Seth Raynor but demolished by the U.S. Navy during World War II as the land was used to support the war effort. While the course was lost, its mystique grew over the years.

CCNC opened in 1963 and was designed by Ellis Maples a protege of Donald Ross.

Both 18s are consistently in the top courses in North Carolina and the club was voted in the Top 100 when opened.

Prominent championships began coming early, starting with the 1965 North Carolina Amateur. Shortly following, CCNC was the site in 1971 and 1972 of the U.S. Professional Match Play Championship (won by DeWitt Weaver and Jack Nicklaus) and the 1980 U.S. Amateur (won by Hal Sutton). It has also hosted the prestigious (over 120-year running) Southern Amateur on seven occasions (with Ben Crenshaw, Len Mattiace, and Webb Simpson among the winners). The club has recently hosted two more USGA Championships, with Doris Chen capturing the 2010 U.S. Girls Junior and Nick Dunlap the 2021 U.S. Junior Amateur. More championships are on the horizon as CCNC will played host to the 2023 ACC Championships along with an eighth Southern Amateur (most all-time).

The Virginia Country Club is a historical and wonderful member's course. A.W. Tillinghast and William P. Bell were primarily responsible for conceiving the current layout during the "Golden Age of Design" in America. By today's standard, it is not a long golf course. However, it is a great shotmaker's track with small greens and interesting terrain that creates nice variety throughout and gives the player the thrill of natural contours playing up, down and across the various elevation changes.

The late John Harbottle III was the last to restore the golf course and while he kept the pursuit to maintain the Club's classic design, Harbottle made efforts to provide the modern player with an aspiring test of golf.

Tot Hill Farm located in Asheboro, NC is a Mike Strantz design gem! The entire property is amazing and the course is an absolute must play for anyone and everyone.

Crooked Stick is the course where Pete Dye became Pete Dye. Conceived following an extended tour of British courses, Pete founded Crooked Stick, located the land, raised the funds and designed the course, rejecting conventional golf holes in favor of radical ones, using bulkheads of vertical telephone poles to create abrupt change and long expanses of sand to emulate dunes. What's more, he built it himself, pressing even his wife, Alice, and young sons Perry and P.B. into construction work. They opened the back nine first, in 1965, with Mackenzie-style boomerang greens; the front nine came two years later, with lines and angles appropriated from Donald Ross.

Ben Crenshaw might not have won the 1995 Masters Tournament had Carl Jackson not taken the "caddie shortcut" to the edge of the ninth fairway at Augusta National Golf Club to save some time.

The move put Jackson about 150 yards away from Crenshaw, who was teeing off on No. 9.

It allowed Jackson to see two flaws in Crenshaw's swing during a pivotal practice round, and helped set in motion Crenshaw's unlikely victory.

Crenshaw was struggling with his game -- and his emotions. Famed golf instructor Harvey Penick, who helped Crenshaw when he had swing problems, had died the previous Sunday.

Crenshaw would travel to Austin, Texas, for Penick's funeral the next morning, a day before the first round of the Masters.

"I was an emotional wreck; my concentration was not there," Crenshaw said recently. "My game was bad and so was I after that news Sunday night (about Penick's death)."

When Crenshaw returned from Penick's funeral, he came back with confidence in his game, thanks to the changes Jackson had suggested.

And playing with memories of Penick in his head, Crenshaw went out and shot 70-67-69-68. His 14-under-par 274 clipped Davis Love III by a shot.

Afterward, Crenshaw credited Jackson with helping him win.

Jackson knows his friend's swing so well that even Crenshaw's late father, Charlie Crenshaw, would encourage him to say something if he felt his son's swing was slightly off.

Jack Nicklaus was a one of a kind golfer. "The Golden Bear" won 18 Majors - a record that remains untouched - and dominated a talent-heavy era for golf in the 1960s, 70s and early 80s. Nicklaus conquered Augusta National, the notorious home of The Masters in 1963, 1965, 1966, 1972, 1975 and 1986, taming the ridiculously difficult course with his exuberant short game.
