Dad was always an avid birder! He had many feeders in the back yard, which he changed faithfully each and every week. He always liked to sit outside on the back deck and watch the different birds stop by. I always admired how he could identify each and every variety!
One of his biggest frustrations was when he ended up feeding the squirrels instead of the birds, because there was always a squirrel after one or another of his feeders. Dad always tried new and different contraptions to keep the squirrels at bay - but the squirrels always ended up finding a way to get to the food and win!
After my dad died, I put one of his old feeders up in my back yard. I now have the same battle. I always manage to feed the squirrels! All the happy, full squirrels make me think of dad.
Thank you + I hope you can make a donation to Dougy Center in honor of my dad (and all the fat squirrels in the world!). -Rebecca Sturges
