OWN A PIECE OF BOURBON HISTORY!
This Old Fitzgerald, Bottled in Bond, Straight Bourbon Whiskey, was made in the Fall of 1971 and bottled in the Spring of 1978. What makes this bottle really special, was that it was distilled at the famed Stitzel-Weller Distillery, founded in Shively, Kentucky in 1935, by Julian "Pappy" Van Winkle Sr., Alex T. Farnsley and Arthur P. Stitzel. After the deaths of Farnsley and Stitzel, Julian Van Winkle Sr. continued to run the distillery, until his death in 1965. Control of Stitzel-Weller was then passed on to Julian Van Winkle Jr., who owned and operated the distillery, until it's sale to Norton-Simon, on June 30, 1972. Norton-Simon renamed Stitzel-Weller the Old Fitzgerald Distillery. The fact this bourbon was made prior to the sale of Stitzel-Weller, is of historical significance. The completely in-tact tax strip clearly identifies this bourbon as being made by Stitzel-Weller.This one-gallon bottle holds the equivalent of FIVE traditional 750ml bottles of bourbon. Based on the near perfect condition of this bottle, you could open this bottle and drink some exquisite bourbon whiskey, that few alive have tasted. Or you could choose to keep this bottle sealed, away from heat and sunlight, and its value will continue to grow, as the years progress. Bottle valued at over $2000.
