Christian Bradley West is a self-taught interdisciplinary artist interested in how found objects and nature subconsciously inform how humans interact with their world through the mundane beauty that often goes unnoticed. His latest series, Anticipating Vacancies, calls to awareness the fact that wild pollinator habitats are shrinking. As native vegetation is replaced by roadways, manicured lawns, crops, non-native gardens, and herbicide usage, pollinators lose the food and nesting sites necessary for their survival. And because humans and nature are inextricably enmeshed, these vacancies impact our own survival. Christian has collected paper wasp and hornet's nests, coated them in porcelain, and added artifacts, like crystals, vitrifying the unbearable weight of the original creator's disappearing legacy. He has a background in philosophy, fine art photography, painting, ceramics, and textile design. His work is included in the collections of the High Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia (MOCA GA), and the Sir Elton John photography collection, as well as numerous private and corporate collections.
