Our Acting, Dance, and Musical Theatre Students are provided smooth-soled character shoes for various performances that allow them to dance/move easily on the stage; however, these shoes are not fit for all performances.

When rubber soles are safer and more appropriate for a production, it now costs $50 to have their shoes cobbled (still far less expensive than buying an entirely new pair of shoes!).

Won't you help one or more of our students shine brightly on stage with some new soles?

One of the biggest stumbling blocks in costuming our performers in Theatre is the cost of safe dance shoes. Buying the less-expensive shoes is a preference for students on a budget, but this can lead to injury, as the shoes are not as flexible and often are more narrow and tight-fitting. They also tend to only last through one season/semester, which is counter-productive.

With your help, we can provide long-lasting support with a pair of LaDuca dance shoes that will shod a student for all four years of their productions with us!

In showing planets from a defined visual angle, he introduced a human point of view and our collective human imagination was immediately switched on to the experience of space travel.

You and a guest will travel for 11 days, May 2026 (exact dates soon to be determined), with the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts to Germany and Austria for an insider perspective on German/Austrian history and culture. We will start in Berlin, Germany's cosmopolitan capital that brings past and present together in a cityscape filled with memorials, museums, galleries, palaces, theatres, and nightclubs. Witness the reminders of a dark past that gave birth to one of the world's most stable democracies and inclusive cities. Enjoy traditional German food and drink or sample Turkish, Ethiopian, Italian, Greek, or any of the other cuisines available in this multicultural mecca.

Next stop is the nearly thousand-year-old city of Nuremberg and the medieval walled town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. You'll see exquisite artworks by Albrecht Dürer and Tilman Riemenschneider and visit the Kaiserburg, where the Holy Roman Emperor resided when he was in town. Crossing into Austria, we'll spend two nights in the baroque city of Salzburg, birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and setting for the movie The Sound of Music. We will conclude our journey in Vienna, city of waltzes and operas and former seat of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. We will tour ornate baroque palaces and churches, see paintings by Gustav Klimt, attend a concert, and sample the new wine in a traditional heuriger on the outskirts of the city. And we won't forget to take a ride on the giant Ferris wheel and have coffee and Sachertorte, Vienna's world-renowned chocolate layer cake named after the hotel where it was created.

The trip allows for a flexible combination of group activities and free time for participants to explore sites on their own (with Dean Schmidt ready at hand to assist). Participants will have the option to add on evening visits to the theatre, symphony, and opera, or choose to have free time instead. The trip fee includes eleven nights in hotels, breakfast, daytime entrance fees for items on the itinerary, guides and tours, and transportation via train, bus, and streetcar within Germany and Austria (participants may use taxis if they choose at their own cost). One dinner in Berlin including a discussion with a German author on current affairs will be included. Participants are responsible for all other meals during the trip, and Dean Schmidt will gladly provide recommendations or make group reservations on request.

Gary Schmidt holds a Ph.D. in German Literature from Washington University in St. Louis and has led numerous student and faculty trips to Germany and Austria. He was a Fulbright German Studies Scholar and a participant in a National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Seminar in Vienna. He is the translator of two full-length novels from German to English as well as co-editor of Quertext: Queer Voices from German-Speaking Europe.

"Delaware River" by Wright State University Associate Professor of Art, Ben Montague, is a 2024 Unique Dry Plate Tintype.

The image portrays the remnants of a pier along the Delaware River in Philadelphia. The use of the tintype process evokes historical images of the Western landscape, obscuring the familiarity of the contemporary landscape and preventing it from being firmly placed in any specific time.

Gary W. Hinsche, award-winning artist and executive design director of the Ohlmann Group in Dayton, has provided us with this lovely artwork, U, created with epoxy over acrylic on Baltic Birch. This piece is a part of his collection, called AZ, essence of a letterform, a series of large-format acrylic works that represent the culmination of thousands of hours of drawing and four years of work dedicated to expressing the simple essence of a letter, while maintaining the attributes of a fully-developed font: a family of twenty-six letters. And YOU can have the letter U!

To Gary, "...for any work to have value beyond decoration it has to be intellectually or spiritually rooted in an idea that transcends the expected. Art needs to expand the way WE view the world or at least it needs to challenge the obvious and engage the viewer. It's the responsibility of an artist to create a visual bridge between reality and perception. In other words, ART has to change or affect the visual narrative. Challenging realty, interpreting reality and presenting reality differently".

This value is inherently realized in U and you'll be fascinated by the extra dive into Gary's work with the addition of his book, The Essence of a Font" included with the artwork.

Gary has worked with some of the world's most prestigious brands and events, including the 1984 Olympics, the 1994 FIFA Men's World Cup, the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup, Teledyne, Vaurnet France, Beckman Coulter, Sutter Health, Vitas, and the National Holocaust Museum. His work has been honored with gold medals from the New York and Los Angeles Art Directors Clubs, AIGA, and the Mead Annual Report Show, and has been featured in Print magazine, Graphis, and (CA) Communications Arts magazine. He has served as the president of the Los Angeles Art Directors Club, sat on the Advisory Board of AIGA/LA and taught for 7 years at the Art Center College of Design.

Gary's work has been exhibited in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Cincinnati, Columbus and most recently in the Dana L. Wiley Gallery in Dayton.
