One-of-a-kind! This beautiful, handwoven, pine needle basket was created by Debbi Young, a longtime supporter of Tampa Bay Watch and a true "friend of the bay"! From materials to design, Debbi does it all and as a special treat, the oyster shell in the center is from our Shells for Shorelines recycling program! Debbi collects the pine needles in Georgia and Florida, cooks them in glycerin then allows them to "rest" overnight in the oven. Once rinsed and dried in the sun, she removes the ends/tips then she is ready to weave! Every basket is a unique, wonderful piece of local art.

Luis Velez is a nature photographer who lives in St. Petersburg, Florida. Originally from Ohio, Luis obtained a BA in Illustration and Photography from the Cleveland Institute of Art, Case Western Reserve University. He worked as an illustrator before making a major career change to State and Federal law enforcement where he worked for 30 years. He has now returned to his original passion. When he's not photographing nature, he's taking pictures of his two rescue dogs, Stella and Reggie.
