"The program has helped raise my standard of living. I am now able to pay school fees for my younger siblings. Some of them had dropped out of school because of the challenges of life, but later on they went back to school, and I am able to cater for their school fees. The program has pushed me to a place that I didn't know I would reach personally. Without this program, I don't know where my life would have been."

Akua'ba (sometimes spelled Akwaba or Akuba) are wooden dolls representing prosperity, good luck and fertility. Typically from Western Ghana and nearby areas, this special guy is from the Congo. The best known akua'ba are those of the Fanti people, "Fanti Dolls" whose akua'ba have large, disc-like heads.

Traditionally, these dolls are carried on the back of young women either hoping to conceive a child, or to ensure the attractiveness of the child being carried. When not in active use, the akua'ba would be ritually washed and cared for in the traditional homestead.

According to the appraiser this is a "vintage Fanti carved mother and child group Akuaba area of Southern Ghana, 20th Century The carved hardwood figure depicting a mother and nursing child seated on a stool, the back with incised markings and with white highlights throughout."

This is a depiction of civilization paying a visit to traditional African way of life. The plane represents Western Civilization and the huts represents the African community. The majority of safari travellers are drawn to wild place by the proespect of encountering animals, but most end up also being enchanted by the locals. Remote and rural peoples are often uniquely selfless, their natural inclination is to be sociable and their hospitality is so very generous. On the other hand the travellers get to learn alot about the culture and share ideas thus empowering one another.
