Originally from Finland, Iita has been working in Sweden for the last few years. This summer she came to PGC as a teaching assistant to Micke Johansson to teach the famous Swedish overlay technique. Swedish overlay is a glass technique that involves fusing two colored glass bubbles together, casing them in clear glass, and then turning one bubble inside out over the other. This process creates a thin layer of color on the outside of the glass, which can then be carved, etched, or engraved with motifs. The glass is annealed and cooled to room temperature before carving

Gavin Benjamin is a multifaceted artist who combines original analog photography and appropriated images with collage, paint, and varnish to create rich and luxurious works that call back to baroque traditions while incorporating elements of current culture to provoke, critique, and explore.

"I am very inspired by the work of artists during the 15th to 17th centuries, especially the Dutch and Italian masters. There is something very romantic, dark, mysterious, and brooding about these works. I find this period fascinating because of the deep, luxurious colors and intense light and dark shadows. I am drawn to the juxtaposition of objects and compositions that come together to tell a story," says Benjamin.

Benjamin investigates the intersection of culture, media, politics, fashion, and design, addressing questions that (continue to) confront men of color in America today.

Samuel Spees is an independent artist, designer, and craftsperson. While pursuing football at Centre College in Kentucky he was drawn to the process of glassmaking, which became his new favorite sport. Having over a decade of experience, Sam's work embodies the mental process and physical skills of glassmaking. He uses traditional Venetian techniques, as well as American influence to make playful, experimental, and technical work. In turn he creates a wide array of both functional and sculptural objects through a lens perceiving the world through memories and sensory experiences.

wireframe cylinder, 2022 glass, argon/mercury, stainless steel slotted screws, additional hardware Wireframe cylinder consists of 12 green phosphor coated tubes with Argon and Mercury, positioned to create and optical illusion of three dimensional cylinder in a two dimensional plane. Designed utilizing a computer's brain on a how a three dimensional object in processed/render in Illustrator. Rendering a three dimensional object in a two dimensional space (illustrator) to recreate the two dimensional drawing of a three dimensional object in the three dimensional world. Only to have the green tubes be on the same linear plane to create the illusion of a three dimensional cylinder. The work will be installed by the artist, directly on a wall of the buyers choosing. The white box will be color matched to the wall of the buyer.
