Feel free to bring your mat, or a mat can be provided
Class Description: Rooted in the 8-limbed path, this class incorporates asana (postures) and pranayama (breath-work) as tools to investigate both body and mind. Classes will begin with guided breath work and spine mobilization followed by Surya Namaskar (sun salutations) to build heat and standing postures to help refine and develop balance. A series of back-bending, twisting, and hip opening will leave the practitioner ready for the final resting place and culminating posture, savasana (corpse pose). Attention to functional anatomy and alignment will be used to both enhance the yoga experience as well as cultivate a working understanding of body mechanics. No experience necessary and ALL are welcome.
Bio: Kate Diaz found her way to yoga through her life long study of dance and passion for the human body in motion. Rooted in functional anatomy and alignment, Kate holds a 300hr yoga teaching certificate from The Perri Institute, founded by TaraMarie Perri. Her classes are seasonally supportive, rooted in the 8-limbed path and taught with humor and care. Postures, flow, and breath-work all present opportunities for both internal and external investigation. In addition, Kate holds a BFA in dance choreography and an MA in dance education. She holds dual NY State Teaching Certification in dance and physical education. Kate has taught yoga at Harlem Yoga, Steps on Broadway and Peridance Children's Summer Intensive. She is currently on faculty at the Professional Performing Arts School (PPAS) where she teaches dance, movement for actors, and yoga. Kate believes that any consistent movement practice has the power to heal and enjoys sharing that journey with her students. @katediazdanceandyoga
