24" x 48" Collage Assemblage by the Azure Classroom Toddlers
"Laugh With My Friends and Play" is a compilation of candid moments of your children at play. We wanted to capture different styles of play and the overall joyful energy that comes to life during the recess cycle. The children began by treating the work surface with a layer of green paint. As a group they blended an array of brown tones of paint and applied this to paper that was then cut into strips. These strips were collaged together in plank-like fashion to simulate hardwood flooring. A gray baseboard was added to ground the foundation. The components of this background are directly inspired by our indoor movement space. Each child was given a multi-part template created directly from their photographs. These included their hair, clothing and shoes. Carefully blended paint was provided according to the children's hair color and skin tone clearly displaying our diversity. Art techniques that the children have been practicing throughout the school year were utilized. Patterns and prints on their clothing were achieved through the use of stenciling, painter's tape and dot painting. Finally, the painted individual parts were collaged together and placed in the composition. The many processes of this lively collaboration resulted in this stunning work of art.

Enjoy an outing with Ms. Cherise, Ms. Alexis and Ms. Liz. We will have brunch and take a walk to the Academy of Natural Sciences. Your child may choose to invite one GTMS friend along for the fun.
Buckeye Class: Our art is inspired by the children's love for the song, "What a Wonderful World," which happens to also have been made into a book by Bob Thiele and Tim Hopgood. The children always request this book during stories and love to point out the different scenes that they love, "Look! It's a horse!" "Look! It's a mountain!" You put all of their favorite scenes into one picture, and you have our art piece! The children used paint brushes, sponges, q-tips, and handmade foam stamps to add acrylic paint to various shaped templates. To piece everything together, the children helped to glue on the pieces of paper using a glue smear stick.
"...yes I think to myself, what a wonderful world!"
Pizza Party with the Buckeyes!
Your child will be able to bring along 3 friends for this fun experience! We will make our own pizzas with the children, eat and party on the playdeck with music and bubbles, and read the children's current favorite book "Pete the Cat and the Perfect Pizza Party."
Crescent Class:
"Goodnight Little Whale, Goodnight" is inspired by a classroom favorite, Baby Beluga! Baby Beluga is a song book by Raffi and has earned the hearts of the children. Our painting was inspired by one of the book pages where baby beluga is snuggled up with his mama in the ocean. Each child painted and marbled a star using watercolor paint and shaving cream. They also used chalk pastel to create the Northern Lights. Students used acrylic paint to make the whales, sky, and ocean.
watercolor, acrylic paint, chalk pastel, paper collage
Monarch Class: Our Very Hungry Caterpillar" is a compilation of the children's paintings throughout the school year used to recreate a classic children's story, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, by Eric Carle.

The Swallowtail Class"
Inspired by one of the children's favorite books, "It Looked Like Spilled Milk," the children were encouraged to use their imaginations and think about what clouds can look like. Dinosaurs, cars, and trucks were a common theme. The children painted the sky using different shades of blue. We then mixed green paint and added black and white to create the different shades of green for the mountains. They also painted the clouds by using white paint on top of some of their favorite colors to give some depth to the characters. All the children's paintings were then collaged to create this beautiful masterpiece.
Acrylic/ Collaging

The students then assembled all the pieces together like a puzzle to complete their class portrait.

All Greene Towne students; DEIB painting:
"In honoring the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging here at Greene Towne Montessori each student in the school came together to help create this vibrant piece of original communal art. Inspired by the students' interest in the murals around Philadelphia, each child decorated a tile to add to the abstract, colorful "mural" depicted here and each classroom helped create a piece of city scenery from the iconic skyscrapers, textured sidewalk, and beautiful fall trees. When asked what word they'd like to add to our mural and felt would best represent Philadelphia and GTMS the Lower Elementary students settled on "Freedom".
"Because everyone is free to come here at Greene Towne and be who they are. Anyone is welcome now." "
