This son of Time Square is from the Red Nan family that has been producing herd bulls and elite females at Waukaru for over 65 years. Concept 3021 is a ruggedly designed, heavy boned sire that is big footed and measured a 41 centimeter scrotal circumference. By no surprise, he lands in the top 2$ of the non-parent population for STAY; his maternal great granddam is due to calve again this spring at the age of 12 and has weaned a calf on time every year. In fact, Red Nan 2181 has produced five bulls so far, all in service in northern California, Tennessee, Wyoming, and Indiana. We have kept all of her daughters back as replacements.

Understandably, when Denver 3028 dropped he caught our attention. Early in life, everyone at Waukaru knew he was bound to be an important herd sire. Denver 3028 is sired by our senior herd sire, Waukaru Latigo 0033, who has quickly established himself as the most consistent generator of performance, pattern, and power we have seen here. Denver 3028 brings forth an impressive set of EPDs, landing above the top 25% of the population for 13 traits. Impressively, Denver 3028 is able to combine calving ease with growth, marbling with muscle, and land in the top 1% of the breed for STAY. Visually, Denver 3028 impresses because of his balance and soundness combined with power and mass. Recently, Denver 3028 was named Reserve Grand Bull at the EDGE show in Oklahoma City, and a member of the Grand Champion Pen of Three at the National Pen show in Oklahoma City. His dam is launching her own story; her first son is in use here, and weighed right at 1300 lbs. last fall.

He is long and level down his top and out his hip. From behind, it is impressive to evaluate the shape and turn down his top and shape and expression through his rump and lower stifle. Keep all of his daughters; he lands in the top 1% of non-parents for STAY, and from a cow family that has been producing the top cut cows for nearly a half century at Waukaru.

Long Range 3043 has set the pace for the entire 2023 male crop at Waukaru. A study of his ancestral information reveals a "Most Wanted" list spanning decades. Long Range 3043 is hard to match on paper; he defies animal breeding challenges by shattering multiple breeding antagonisms simultaneously. 3043 is above the top 10% of the breed for his direct calving ease prediction and maternal calving ease. He lands in the top 3% for growth traits, while being above the top 1/3 for BEPD. Yet the most challenging is to breed a bull that does this while beating the best 15% for REA, Marbling, and STAY. These stats combined land him in the top 1% for both $BMI and $FEED. On visual inspection, Long Range 3043 is powerful, massive, masculine, moves like a classic piece of music and has unequaled balance and eye appeal. Recently, Waukaru Long Range 3043 was named Grand Champion Bull at the inaugural National EDGE Show last January in Oklahoma City. The next day he was the anchor of the Grand Pen of Three at the National Shorthorn Pen Bull Show.

When viewed from behind, 3044 has as much turn and shape of muscle over his rib, through his loin and into his demanding rump and stifle as any. This power is developed over time from a maternally dominant set of genetics that land 3044 in the top 2% for STAY and top 1% of the population for $BMI.

It's hard to be critical of his far reaching EPDs, landing near the top for growth, muscle and ribeye. Vanguard 3056 is a full sibling to Prima Bella 1030 that was the anchor of the 2023 Champion Pen of Three Heifers in Oklahoma City and later selected by Jeff and Diane Bedwell of Isabella, OK in the Summit Sale. From Sproul Livestock in northwest Oklahoma at Isabella. These cattle were born and developed on land that has been in the family since the Land Run of 1893. Sproul Livestock is a commercial cow-calf operation focused on developing high quality replacement females and market-topping steer calves. The cow herd is comprised of moderate sized, Red Angus and Red Angus x Shorthorn females who offer plenty of capacity and depth of body. The red sandhills of Major County require cattle to be sound, while the limited rainfall and feed resources demand efficiency. The Waukaru bull genetics utilized have proven to complement Sprouls' program by maximizing both the maternal and growth characteristics necessary for a profitable operation. This group of heifers are sired by sons of Thermal Energy and Prime Time Teddy.

From Jim and Stephanie Sneed of Ashland Farms in Sedalia, MO. Jim and Stephanie have always maintained a practical approach to raising Shorthorn cattle on the rolling hills and shallow soils of central Missouri. The local fescue pastures dictate that Sneeds produce cattle who will shed hair quickly in the spring, are moderate in their mature size, and have plenty of capacity to utilize this forage base. Sneeds' are to receive very little for supplements; they depend on the growing pasture, stockpiled forage stands, and home raised fescue hay to complete the calendar. The Sneed heifers are sired by sons of Thermal Energy and Byland Top Gun.

This female is from Conard Cattle of west central Kansas. The Conards turn bulls out to single sire breeding pastures for 60 days on the mature cows, and 45 days on the heifer replacements. Anything that is open is culled; fertility has been a key selection criteria for many generations. Shorthorn genetics have been used for over 100 years, then in 2018 Red Angus sires were also included. For their Shorthorn and Red Angus bulls, Conards select sires that are above average in CED and below breed average for birthweight, while at average for WW and YW. They shoot for the top 1/3 of each breed for Marbling and Ribeye area EPDs, while frame score of near 5 is used to control mature size.
