 Sara and Lauren's Amazing Journey

Once upon a time in 2018, Sara and Lauren met at a coffee shop to discuss future job opportunities. It was a bright sunny day, so they sat outside and chatted for hours. It was lovely and the beginning of many things to come. Lauren joined Sara's small animal general practice shortly after as a registered veterinary technologist. Being constant learners and glass-ceiling demolishers, they began to ask themselves, "What's next?" Both ladies are very into fitness, Sara, ballroom dancing, and Lauren, CrossFit, so rehabilitation seemed like a natural fit. In 2019, they started the Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner program through the University of Tennessee. In early 2020, during the full-scale pandemic era, Sara, Lauren and Dr. Amber Sheppard opened Michiana Animal Rehabilitation Services, also known as MARS, a full-service rehabilitation facility. The services they provide to our community's pets are vast, but in short, they include laser therapy, extracorporeal shockwave therapy, underwater treadmill, acupuncture, thermal imaging, massage, and much more. Sara's special interest is in intra-articular joint injections using either Synovetin OA or regenerative medicine, PRP. Sara and Lauren are so passionate about their work that they now host webinars and in-person CE seminars for other veterinary professionals and pet parents! Their goal is to make physical rehabilitation a staple in our pet community, not just a last-ditch effort, as many people think it is.

Dr. Sara Granberg graduated from Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. After practicing in Texas for two years, she returned home to Indiana and joined a small animal practice. In 2015, Dr. Granberg purchased Middlebury Animal Clinic. It was a small one-doctor practice. It is now a thriving three-doctor practice that has a reputation for excellent medicine and customer service. Opening Michiana Animal Rehabilitation Services in 2020 has allowed her to split her time between her general practice and rehab consultations. She continues to pursue her education and will soon become a Certified Veterinary Pain Practitioner (CVPP). In doing so, she will be able to learn new techniques that can improve the quality of life of the animals that she is privileged to treat.

Lauren, an Elkhart native, graduated from Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2014 where she earned her bachelor's Degree in Veterinary Technology. She is currently studying to become a Certified Canine Manual Therapist (CCMT) through NC State. Joining Sara and Amber in opening MARS was the best professional leap she ever could have dreamed for herself, even though she's constantly corralling Sara. She mostly looks forward to connecting with her patients and their families, improving and extending the lives of every animal that walks through their doors. In Lauren's spare time, you can typically find her lakeside with a good book and an even better cocktail. Cheers!
