Our soda fired kiln is a critical part of our facilities at The Clay Studio of Missoula. This piece of equipment experiences an extreme amount of wear and tear, requires constant maintenance, and needs to be replaced more frequently than other kilns. Many of our resident artists and artists in our community rely on the soda kiln to fire their work. It is extremely cost prohibitive for an independent artist to build and maintain this type of kiln, so many count on us to provide this accessible resource. This kiln also serves as a valuable teaching tool for our continuing students who are looking to learn more about firing processes to expand their abilities in ceramics.

Our funding goal for this project is $24000.

Meeting our financial goal will enable us to purchase the bricks, steel, new burners, and cover the fees for our kiln builder, Scott Ross. It will also help us obtain new furniture for the kiln and get us situated with a small maintenance fund.
