The Oliva Serie V brand is a cigar that's consistently smoked above its price range since it was introduced in 2007, and the Churchill Extra here is no exception. Fine Art student Bethany Lenell's beautiful oil on canvas still life, Untitled, brings out the silver tones of our 25th Anniversary theme. Her interpretation of the classroom challenge won her a never-before-offered title of "runner-up" in this year's ArtsGala Art Competition and she graciously donated the piece to us so we could offer YOU the chance to own her lovely piece.

Bethany describes her piece: "This was a study done using a limited palate in order to still be able to create a complex and tonally interesting presentation of a still life.

After I graduate, I want to look for a position where i can educate people in art - whether that be children or adults in a school or museum setting. My goal is to help others realize their potential as an artist and to find out how to appreciate all forms of art regardless of personal taste".

The painting by WSU Associate Professor of Art, Jeremy Long, is an oil on canvas paper titled "Titian copy".

"This is a transcription I did some years ago as a way to understand this particular Titian painting better. Unfortunately, I have not had the opportunity to see this painting in real life, but I did enjoy working from a reproduction of it. I was initially struck by the fact that I had not seen this painting in books on Titian's work before. I found a loose reproduction of it, which seemed to be an invitation to make a copy of it."

Molly Goldsmith, a junior Fine Arts major with Graphic Design Certificates and an Art History minor, was given one of the first-ever titles of "runner-up" in this year's ArtsGala Art competition with this beautiful digital print entitled Autumn Bridge.

"Our assignment was to create photographs using multiple images, so I thought about creating a college of a park I like to visit. The time of year was perfect with all the leaves being gorgeous orange and green colors. The collage is meant to abstract a normal bridge and combine various angles and points of view. It can be seen as a fantasy world where the perfect fall weather is always happening, and the world comes alive even while all the leaves are dying".

Our Acting, Dance, and Musical Theatre Students are provided smooth-soled character shoes for various performances that allow them to dance/move easily on the stage; however, these shoes are not fit for all performances.

When rubber soles are safer and more appropriate for a production, it costs $30 to have their shoes cobbled (far less expensive than buying an entirely new pair of shoes!).

One of the biggest stumbling blocks in costuming our performers in Theatre is the cost of safe dance shoes. Buying the less-expensive shoes is a preference for students on a budget, but this can lead to injury, as the shoes are not as flexible and often are more narrow and tight-fitting. They also tend to only last through one season/semester, which is counter-productive.

Microplastic #263 by Wright State University Associate Professor of Art, Ben Montague, is a 2021 Archival Pigment print, edition 2/10.

This image is part of a series that explores the issue of microplastics in the environment. Microplastics are defined as plastics smaller than 5mm. These are often created by non-recycled plastics gradually breaking down into tiny fragments which enter our watersheds and, eventually, our food system. Additionally, preproduction pellets used to produce larger plastics, called nurdles, are prevalent in marine debris due to industrial spills. Along with microfibers shed from synthetic clothing during washing, scientists are now finding microplastics in shellfish, beer, bottled water, and even in blood.

"The objects in these photographs were collected from water and soil samples from both urban and rural rivers, lakes, and oceans. Using a floatation method and filters, I was able to separate much of the plastic material from the samples to be photographed. These are not intended to be scientific studies; their purpose is to show how ubiquitous microplastics have become in the environment. While many beaches and rivers are littered with trash, even seemingly pristine waters are contaminated with microplastics".
