The Basics of ATHLETIC TRAINING: An Introduction in the Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries (8th edition) has been written and edited by athletic trainers, allied health professionals, and physicians as a comprehen sive introduction to current philosophies, procedures, and practices related to the care and prevention of athletic injuries. Designed as a classroom and clinical textbook, The Basics of Athletic Training will prove to be challenging and rewarding for athletic training students, athletic coaches, parents, and allied health professionals. This text has been divided into 14 chapters and provides the reader with a step-by-step presentation of various duties and responsibilities of physicians, athletic trainers, and other licensed health care providers. The 375+ anatomical graphics allow the student to view dynamic aspects of joint anatomy (bones, ligaments, muscles and function, range of motion, dermatomes and myotomes, etc.) along with 25 educational videos outlining selected taping and wrapping techniques. Additionally, the textbook will provide a review of common injuries, evaluation format, basic treatment protocols, and medical referral guidelines. At the completion of the text, the athletic training student will have learned the basics of athletic training and have a working knowledge of common preventive, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation techniques in sports medicine. Through this knowledge, the athletic training student will be better prepared to assist the physician and other licensed health care providers in caring for athletes and other physically active individuals. Additionally, athletic coaches, administrators, student athletes, and their parents can use this book as a resource guide to better understand specific sports-related injuries and emergency procedures and to increase knowledge about athletic training practices and career opportunities.
