Mass shootings capture immediate media attention and public concern, yet as time passes, these tragic events often fade from collective memory. "Columbine," confronts this phenomenon by engaging an AI image generator with the term "columbine." Initially, the AI produced an image associated with the infamous mass shooting, but subsequent outputs reverted to depicting flowers-a stark symbol of how memory and language evolve over time. This work reflects on the fluidity of language and collective memory. It poses a poignant question about our cultural and generational shifts in remembering pain and suffering. As new generations arise, words may shift in meaning, but through this piece, I hope to prompt a reflection on the importance of remembering our past, not just in moments of immediate impact but as a continuous, evolving narrative. "Columbine" serves as a reminder that while flowers may grow over time, the soil beneath them is steeped in history. May we never forget the lessons buried in our past. This piece consists of a single image split vertically into a diptych, with the breaking point clearly bearing the marks of the photo editing software that created it. This piece was born out a motivation to capture and contain something enormous and overwhelming - while simultaneously acknowledging the shortcomings and inherent banality of a photograph of a sunset.

The subject of this photo is wooden template I found at an illegal skatepark built by skaters (DIY) in an abandoned business center in Indiana. The template is used to shape concrete into ramp forms. It comes from a series about the production and subversion of space, creating environments, manipulating materials, and discovering unrestricted forms of creativity and community.

"Ice Cream" represents the best of times. A universal comfort food. A moral food. A luxury and privilege. "La Dolce Vita" or the 'Sweet Life".

"A new form of terrorism" has many faces but refers to the use of force to hurt, oppress, damage or destroy someone or something to achieve power, financial gain, a political, religious, social, racial or ideological goal.

Words and imagery can elicit strong emotional, subconscious, visceral responses on a spectrum of joyous to repulsive. The uncertainty that comes from holding two contradicting emotions at once can be unsettling and confusing.

Observing polarities in a work of art is both a hopeful and frustrating quest, sifting between challenging opposites. While contemporary art hopes to provoke thought, feelings, ideas, and open dialogue, it is each participant's journey.

My work at the moment is focused around the medium of collage. These collage pieces, meticulously crafted from vintage comic books, fuse diverse fragments to reflect overlooked realities. Serving as a distinctive prism to our globalized age, these vibrant tapestries resonate with profound significance. Amidst the spectral presence of unrealized futures, my work becomes a pulsating echo of our cultural history. Through this transformative visualization, I traverse the nebulous boundary between memory and reality, led by a discerning comic-inspired lens. I have been approaching this body of work through the theme of lost futures. It reflects on the enthusiasm and hopefulness of the futures that were promised. We now find ourselves in that future and it is not the future that was assured. Collage is the medium for the early millennium to capture the ideas of Capital Realism and Hauntology. Just like music, cinema are re-hashing the successes of the past, collage is how contemporary artists are making sense of the world in a world of lost futures. In a neoliberal globalized world, our entire culture is a mash-up of what came before and collage is the medium to best reflect that. Images carry weight and power, and over time, a history. Visual information is one of the primary ways we remember the past. Collage is a way to utilize this embedded, fractured history to create new narratives. I don't approach the blank 'canvas' with any idea of what the piece might look like upon creation and instead let the pieces create themselves through an unconscious and subconscious method.
