Villa Terrace: 100 Years Young

The Centennial of Villa Terrace is a time to celebrate both the building's storied past, as well as our next 100 years as the premier community museum, event and performance space, and Renaissance gardens overlooking Lake Michigan. The Centennial Celebration will be the highlight of the summer season, a city-wide festival of enormous fun and fantasy, inclusive of and accessible to all Milwaukeeans.

A New Direction

Jaymee Harvey Willms, the new executive director of the Charles Allis Villa Terrace Museums, has put into motion a complete rethinking of the museums and their mission. She has created new programming, opened up new spaces, and brought in new audiences to the venues. We want to celebrate this new direction and make sure that the community truly feels that these organizations are there for all to access and enjoy.

The Big Picture

The Centennial Celebration will span the week of July 10-13th, 2024. We want to celebrate all aspects of what Villa Terrace has to offer the city, which we believe are its contributions to supporting artists, performances, and events for kids. We anticipate the following elements to the celebration:

Daytime Activities

Performance Day - July 10th, 10 am - 4 pm (Tickets)

This day will feature music, dance, opera, theater, poetry recital and eclectic short performances from a range of different performance groups, large and small, from across the city. These performances will be timed to occur throughout the day, and will take place in various locations at the Villa and in the gardens. There will be performances both by and for kids as well. FREE with advanced tickets.

Artists' Day - July 11th, 10 am - 4 pm (Tickets)

We will have an art and crafts fair in the courtyard and first floor of the Villa, with artists displaying and selling their work. We will also have plein air painters in the gardens. Kids will be able to engage in a range of different arts projects and learning opportunities, partnering with organizations from around the city that provide art classes. FREE with advanced tickets.

Night Time Activities

Opening Night Drone Show - July 10th, 9 - 9:30 pm

The Opening Night of the Centennial Celebration will feature a fabulous drone show! This spectacle will be visible both from the Villa and across the lakefront. It will be designed by Milwaukee multimedia artist, Ray Chi, and will dazzle crowds with inventive 3D design and technical wizardry. Music simulcast by WMSE 97.1 FM. FREE

Luz Nocturna - July 10th, 7 pm - 10 pm (Tickets)

An evening devoted to latin music, dance and fun, with fantastical lighting, food trucks, and elements of magic and mystery. Adult tickets will be $15 for CAVT or FOVT members, and $25 for non-members; Kid tickets $5.

Centennial Jazz Gala in the Garden - July 13th, 5 pm - 10 pm (Tickets)

Envision an evening where elegance meets the vibrant spirit of jazz, each detail crafted to enchant and welcome. The Centennial Jazz Gala in the Garden will be the finale of the events, and will raise money towards maintaining our gorgeous gardens and making them more accessible; continuing our restoration of the Hermes sculpture; and much more!
