The Science Department needs one, 6-group set @ $314 and one, 3-group set @ $164 of the Amino Acid Starter Kit to use in Honors Biology to help model protein structure and function.
This engaging, hands-on protein-folding kit makes teaching protein structure basics easy. Your students will fold a protein while exploring how the chemical properties of amino acids determine its final structure.
Your student will use the Amino Acid Starter KitŠ to employ the kit's protein-folding activities to first explore the primary and tertiary structure of proteins by constructing a generic 15-amino acid protein, then learn about the secondary structure of proteins by folding a toober model of the first of 3 zinc fingers of the Zif268 protein.
The Science Department would like one Flow of Genetic Information Kit (1 @ $114) to use in Honors Biology to model the molecular mechanism of gene expression.
The Flow of Genetic Information Kit will allow the students to model DNA replication using color-coded, foam nucleotides and a placemat; model RNA transcription as they copy one strand of DNA into mRNA using an RNA polymerase; and model translation/protein synthesis as they decode the mRNA into protein on the ribosome placemat. The students can then explore the folding of the protein into its final 3D shape using the popular Amino Acid Starter Kit.
The Science Department would like 4 smart carts (4 @ $169 each) for their AP Physics/Honors Physics classrooms. Each cart will collect wireless data for all types of mechanics - motion, forces, momentum, energy.
Each cart has sensors that measure force, position, velocity, and 6 degrees of freedom in acceleration. The Smart Cart can make these measurements on or off a dynamics track and transmit the data wirelessly over Bluetooth . In essence it is a wireless dynamics cart that combines all the necessary sensors and doesn't require any additional hardware.

The Science Department would like seven turbines (7 @ $119 each) for AP Environmental Science class. All 91 students need to know the basic components of a turbine and wind energy. Tested and approved by thousands of teachers worldwide, this is one of the most affordable and robust wind turbine kits on the market. Students can design turbine blades for it and test power output with a multimeter, LED lamps, or an ultra capacitor.

The Science Department is seeking a Giant Periodic Table (1 @ $200) to display in the lab so that all students in every chemistry class can utilize a modernized periodic table.
This table shows the interval atomic mass for select elements. Symbol text can be read from distance of 25ft.

The Science Department needs 12 sets of Bunsen Burner Tubing Connectors (12 @$23 each) for use in Honors Chemistry to modernize bunsen burners for safety and efficiency.
This galvanized and rust-resistant flexible metal tube provides a gas-tight means of connecting your burner to the gas source. Both ends of the tubing attach easily to the 3/8" serrated hose connections of your burners. Can be used with any burner that has a serrated gas inlet and will fit into the 5/16" hole provided in this tubing. The metal tubing is covered by a gas-tight rubber cover which in turn is covered by a high strength fabric cover.
The Science Department would like BBC: Earth, a 3-DVD set (1 @ $50) for all Honors Biology students to help them visualize the different ecological relationships and predator/prey relationships of the world.
The 3 DVDs: Life, Life Story and The Hunt will show the viewer the world as never seen before. Four years In the making, filmed over 3000 days, across every continent and in every habitat. These 3-DVDs present 130 incredible stories from the frontiers of the natural world, 54 of which have never been filmed before.
The Social Studies Department is requesting conference fees for all 8 teachers to attend the 2019 National Council of Social Sciences Annual Meeting in Austin TX. (8 @ $255 each).
The NCSS is an incredible opportunity for our department to learn and share ideas with educators not only around the country, but around the world. This enables us to come back to the classroom with new and exciting ideas. The conference will be held

The English Department is requesting $5,000 to have the Chicago Shakespeare Theater come to Northside and perform for the student body in our own auditorium.
An in-school performances would allow us to share Shakespeare with all NCP students who study it in the curriculum (students in Survey of Literature, British Literature, Humanities, and AP Literature). Such an experience brings Shakespeare to life for students at a relatively low cost. We're excited to be able to provide this opportunity to students this school year on 4/12/19 due to the generosity of last year's donors and would love to be able to provide a similar opportunity to students in 2020.
The Physical Education Department needs 5 new Stationary bikes for the students (5@ $1,079 each). The current ones are over 20 years old, break often, and are difficult to repair due to out-of-stock parts.

The Computer Science Department needs 2 computer Video Projectors to enhance the classroom experience (2 @ $210) .The current ones are at their end life-span and need to be replaced.

The Counseling Department would like to take up to 60 students to visit colleges and needs 2 buses to accommodate the students (2 @ $1,242 each).
The counselors are hoping to offer college visits over the Summer/Spring Break. We would like to minimize costs to equitably allow all interested students to attend. Buses will be provided by Windy City Charter.
The Counseling Department would like to provide junior and senior students with an opportunity to participate in off-site Chicago-based, service learning projects while the others students are testing. 9 buses are needed to accommodate all juniors and seniors (9 @ $828 each).

The Special Education Department is requesting $4,675 for one, All In One EyeGaze Education Touch PC-Floor Stand.
Student in our cluster program have limited ways to communicate needs or to advocate for themselves. By using eye gaze students are able to increase their ability to communicate with support and training. This package includes all of the materials required to start training and tracking progress with eye gaze tracking. It contains software, eye gaze tracking hardware, a computer, and software.
The World Language Department needs 30 pairs of new headsets for the Language Lab (30 @ $24 each). The current ones are old and very worn and most are no longer in working condition.

The World Language Department needs six 2- boxed sets (containing 5 readers each) for each of Levels I, II & III for students studying the Japanese language (6 @ $50 each).

The World Language Department needs a classroom set of the book, 100 Years of Solitude, by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. This book will be used by advanced level students (32 @$16 each).

The Art Department needs is requesting $1,775 for one, mobile flat file cabinet.
This will replace a broken mobile flat file cabinet in Room 117 that stores paper. The current cabinet has lost many of the rolling wheels required to safely open and close the drawers. Ms. Caplice and Ms. Costas teach in room 117 and like to give students the ability to select the paper that works best for their project as part of a larger, choice- based art curriculum.
This mobile storage cabinet has five large drawers and is ideal for storing paper and supplies in the classroom and studio. It features hard maple framing and birch paneling with a natural finish. A white fiberesin top provides a hard, smooth work surface. Move this cabinet easily from classroom to classroom or anywhere you need it on heavy-duty casters, which are lockable.
The Art Department would like 2 new professional-grade pottery wheels to replace the old, wobbly ones that the students currently use (2@ $1,011 each)
These Skutt's Legend Pottery Wheels have removable splash pans that are large enough and strong enough to hold a full pan of trimmings without coming apart. The clean design of these wheels allows for easier lifting of the wheel head and easier pan removal.
